Ok, I'm taking matters into my own hands here. Right now I've got one of the rarest of all Ibanez things ever and I'm going to share it with the group in an "unofficial guitar tours gallery" post. Only, it's not a guitar. It's a mandolin. Yes, Ibanez made mandolins, mostly Gibson copies. But this one is different! First off, it was made several years after production of the Gibson copies stopped. This one is an '82... I've only ever seen one other, and there is NO WAY any of you guys have one of these. I give you -> 1982 Ibanez 529 Mandolin. Signed label inside, stamped serial number on the back of headstock, hollow carved scroll, antique violin color, unique swirly fingerboard and headstock inlay (different even from the other Ibanez banjo and mandolin inlays). I call it an "Artist Mandolin" even though it isn't an Artist in the strict sense. But it is a step in the "original" direction, and borrows a bit from John Montleone's 'Grand Artist' mandolin designs. Look at the unique shape of the f-holes as well, very modern look for a mandolin. This baby is minty fresh and I am posting pictures for the archives! Try to control yourselves! More porn will follow in the next few days... |

Let's dust off this topic... Long story short, I can't lift a guitar anymore (VERY long story!). But I'm pretty sure I can heft a mandolin. Do a lot of you (at ICW) have 'em? I saw a nice cherry sunburst one, about 15 years ago, being used as decoration in the rafters of a house I was looking to purchase. I was going to make an offer based on the Ibanez mandolin!!! Anyway, was just to say that yesterday while stumbling through ebay sites, i found this Ibanez mandolin on ebay.co.uk .... maybe itll interest you Peter? Hey! Thanks Sibly. I was looking into new Ibanez mandolins too and found some nearby (Toronto area) for ~$150 CDN. That should do the trick, since I am new to the mandolin scene! P |
