can you help identify ibanez -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place, new to site. My father has got an Ibanez Lonestar Series electric accoustic guitar. It is of solid body and has no Serial Number. I am trying to find as much info about this guitar as possible (model, value etc). It was left to my father by his brother a few years ago and he is now considering selling it, tried finding out for myself on other sites but as yet not much luck. Would appreciate your help with as much info as possible. I have attached some photos. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum017.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum016.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum018.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum019.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum020.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum025.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/daverave_ph otos/christmas-farm-airmuseum026.jpg |

It's an Ibanez Lonestar. There was a nylon string version and you seem to have a steel string one. It was made through the 80's I believe, maybe early 90's as well. I saw Chet Atkins in some pictures playing one of those.. I didn't play one of those, but something very similar which is an exact copy of your guitar with the name Morris on the headstock (it was made at the same factory) and it was a good instrument. amplified ofcourse, it has that nice early 80's Rit\Carlton acoustic tone.. |

Here is an other Lonestar. Are they rare? Value? That is reasonable price? Juha |

Fox: So is Daverave's an LE420? Where's Acetan when we need him? Probably off playing his collection of Lonestars, I bet. |

John, yup, I agree: Lonestar LE 420 DV, spruce top, mahogany back & sides, nato neck.. Ace mailed me some time ago, Žbout the finish issues on LE 520 DV, mine (and his some) have a most serious case of finish "clouding" IŽve ever seen.. Seems like 1986 there was something seriously wrong with final finish and primary coats, the clouding is between the finish coats on my LE. |

Fox: I was watching an AW28 on ebay the other day that talked about having a cloudy finish on the back. I believe it was from the 1988 era. I was thinking that buffing it out might cure the problem, but if it has the same problem as your LEs, then I'm glad I didn't jump on it. |

It seems that the "cloudiness" in the finish is only on the back of the Lonestars with the DV-Dark Violin finish. These are what I have left in Lonestars. Ace

Hi Daverave, It is an LE420DV. There should be an oval shaped sticker in the sound hole where the model and serial number were printed. See attached picture. The value of your guitar is very hard to decide as I don't believe in taking the original list price and multiply it by a magic percentage; even though I'm a CPA and we often like to do things that way. Musical instruments are emotional items and you just can't slap a price tag on it. My luthier fixed some electrical problem on mine and refused to return it to me afterwards. He made me sell it to him and he paid me a very fair price for it. With the original case, which you have, and considering the condition, I would not sell it for anything less than $500 here in the U.S. In fact, I think you ought to hang on to it.

Is the pickguard of the blonde in the picture I posted original? Hidden scratches? Decent price with OHSC in Europe is? Juha |

I've never seen an LE with factory pick-guards even though they can definitely use them. If you look real carefully, you'll see that I have a transparent pick-guard on my LE420, the kind that does not require glue so it can be easily removed. The OHSC for these are of a unique size so they are quite hard to find. Ace |

Johns, the cloudiness is un-repairable, unless you are willing to do a complete refin..As far as I have "studied" it, it is between top finish and primer/stain.. Perhaps there has been some ingredient in used stain that has reacted with clear topcoat. *sigh* |

Agree, the "cloud" does appear to be between the stain and the clear coat. Anything shoet of removing the top coat wo'nt do it. Ace |

Hi! Talajuha asked something about the blone Ibanez! It is my guitar. I was little surprised that I found a picture of my guitar in this site. It is located in Finland. Modell is Ibanez Lonestar series LE-420. Pickguard is homemade design by my girlfriend. Guitarbuilder J. Salo made the final version of it. Guitar is in mint condition and I also have original hardshell case. It is propably for sale...or is it wise thing to do? Make an offer if you are interested. |

You put something on the net and it is considered common property That is the picture, not the guitar. I saw also the new ad at muusikoiden.net and the new raised price. I know also other people in Finland have been interested but thought that you ask too much for your modified Lonestar. Juha |

It is allright that picture of my is in here. I was just suprised. I just surfing in the net and wow, my guitar is international.;) Maybe it is high price, but he is not fool who asks... You can always make an offer how much you will pay for that guitar. I wonŽt be angry. Old guitars like this Ibanez is not easy to get the right price. I think the buyer will tell the price, donŽt you think? It is more or less emotional thing, IŽll believe. If somebody is really interested, I suggest to contact me. |
