I'm in the process of buying my daughter an electro acoustic and was looking at the AW40 CE (she likes the vine inlay) and the AEG10 (I like the price). I tried both in the shop and both sound great throught he acoustic amp, the AEG obviously had less volume and depth when played acoustically. I found the action to be ludicrously high on both of these which would require shaving the bridge to lower I guess. Action was dreadful in comparison to other makes... Crafter, Fender, Takamine.. you name it. Anyone have either of these or any opinons??? |

High action doesn't always mean shaving the saddle. Sometimes its as simple as a neck adjustment(tightening the truss rod. In that case ask the dealer if it could be done prior to purchase. |

Nope, necks were fine with correct relief but the bridge pieces were very high. I don't have a problem with doing this myself. Fret alignment and finish looked fine (yes I'm the one in the shop with the straight edge and feeler guage ;-) ) so lowering the bridge piece shouldn't be a problem... it's just that the factory set up is usually a good sign of how much the manufacturers care! I note that these are all made in China now. |

Geordie: I'm not familiar with the AW40 CE with a vine on it. Can you point me to more info and possibly a picture? |

I tried out an AW200 before i bought my cocnord 698 and i played it for only a few minutes. I wasnt happy with the sound, nor the action (which i found to be incredibly high). In terms of ease of play for your daughter, Jay Turser makes some vine inlay acoustics also (maybe electrics) and they have low action to begin with, dont know about the sound though. |

Ibanez acoustics come out of the box with about the same set-up as all the other makes we carry. The manufactureres set the action in the medium to medium-high range. If a customer wants lower action on a new acoustic, we do that free at the time of purchase. Steve |

I bought that guitar shown above (Aw40t)..the guitar came set up with a pretty high action, but also came with a second bridge (compensated) and some shims..Took about 10 minutes to get the action to where I like it and -I like the guitar so much..I bought two more of them to give as gifts ! (I really dig the neck inlay) I am amazed at the quality of this $235 guitar ! |

I went for the AW40 without electrics and it's a nice guitar. Reasonably set up but I'll lower the action once my daughter has strengthened her fingers ;-)) |
