So I bought my 2375 a month or so.

Man I love this guitar. Originally it was only for wall candy in my office but the more I played it the more I wanted to play it...if ya know what I mean.

And that's saying something....coming from a guy with a 68 tele and a 1955 Les Paul Jr.

So now a 98 Les Paul Special is at the office and the Ibby is at home

I digress.

Anyway. I even like the Don Lace pups that came with the 2375.

I generally play with more gain than the local bylaws permit (Roccaforte HG100/Soldano Cab). The Lace pups have no problem with this type of gain.

Then I found a picguard loaded with a set of Excel pups and wiring harness on the net.

With an eye on resale value I bought them. They will be shipped out tomorrow.

They cost me almost half as much as I originally paid for the 2375.

I was thinking if they can take the gain without excessive squeal I would run the Excels and sell the Lace pups to recover some costs.

Question is:

Will the Excel pickups squeal out or sound thin in a high gain-ish set up.

My amps:

Fender Superchamp (around the home/office/grab and go with no pedals)

Savage Macht 6 with a FDII and airbrake (grab and go/low volume-low gain around the house)

Roccaforte HG100/Soldano Cab with a FDII (for those live shows when only 100 watts will do)

I had a 73 strat that sounded great with my amps.....I'm hoping the Excel pups will work out.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Best regards,

Brian

I'd never heard from Excel pickups until I read your message, but hey I don't know every coil winder on the globe.
But just like you I have the possibility to use Google.
And I found this:
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/ product/Synsonics/Excel+Strat-Style/10/1

These are NOT super ratings if you'd ask me.

I guess, that after you've tried them, you're going to keep the Lace pickups, but this is a Lace fan speaking.

BTW: Did you know that Lace developed pickups of aluminium with NO COIL AT ALL, in order to reduce the world copper consumption? Now, that's really something, because there's a real copper problem right now. Criminals even cut monumental statues of their feet in order to steal an melt them.

Here's an article on these "Alumitone" pickups:
http://www.guitarnoise.com/review.php?id=375

Note that they used a bottom line strat clone to test them! And they make humbuckers as well.

So I say: "Hurray for Don Lace and his firm!"

a good friend of mine has alumitones in his dean guitars. he is waiting on the single coils for his strat. they are so sensative, that you can almost play with only hammer-on's. and are dead quiet.

I think the "Excel" pickups are the stock Ibanez pups for a silver series 2365.

I bought them to increase value and collectability of my guitar.

I am hoping they can stand the sort of playing I would subject them to.

Anyone use stock Ibanez strat pickups with a Marshall or something similar?

Best regards,

Brian

i had some in my silver series strat when i got it....they didnt sound all that great and given the state of the rest of the guitar i didnt think they were original (oops), so i replaced them with some noiseless dimarzios that i got for 50 bucks. sounded tons better.

Hi.

Me again.

Well I've had the excel/Ibanez pups in for over a week now.

The Don Lace pickups are for sale..

They sound so much more "real" to me than the lace pups.

I am very happy with them
