EARLY IBANEZ SG COPY?

Author Message CHRIS SCOTT Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    I just found this SG copy and I was wondering if anyone could help me.I have several 70's Ibanez and I swear this is just as nice as any of them.Construction is basicly the same as my two cherry V's but the finish is a brighter red.Could this be a early Ibanez copy and if not who else might have built with such high standards.I've seen and played other Japanese copies from the 70's but this is the first one that you could ever even compare to a Ibanez.A couple of odd things though are: My other Ibanez bolt ons have 2 screws under the neck plate for renforcement,this dosen't Mine all say "made in Japan" on the plate,this just says "Japan" The pick up wires are in plastic,my others are in braided cloth. The top strap button is on the back heel of the neck insted of the horn. The pick ups don't have any frame around them,they just come up out of the pickguard.(very powerfull by the way,I'd like to put them in my 76 Destroyer) It has 22 frets and somebody added one old Gibson tuner and it has an old Ibanez ST bridge.I'm guessing its pre '73 because of the rounded neck bottom and the fact that it sits high.Any info would be great.I'll try to get photos posted. chris Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    chris Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    Now that I think I know what I'm doing heres the other photos. It's been converted to lefthand, and had got 21 frets.. but the inlays,headstock and hardware look the same. Yeah, could be a very early 70's Ibanez, maybe even late 60's, because it has the old tailpiece that isn't "hooked", but that has the adjustable screws right through it. The little control knobs are exactly the same (small with a "V" or a "T" on it) as on my Late 60's Rickenbacker copy (see http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.de under "collectors"). The lacking brand-name could be a result of removal by a previous owner, although it's been said that Ibanez produced guitars without a brandname at all during some time. Late '60s Ibanez had its name in metal; this was attached on the headstock. Does your guitar show 2 little holes there? Then maybe it's a sign that the logo was removed. Anyway: nice guitar but please......!!!!!! Keep it original. Don't remove the pickups!! Your destroyer will maybe become a better player, but your SG will devaluate.
