I have a line on a vintage Ibanez bass, pics below. It appears to have been modified a bit around the middle of the body. It looks like someone chopped out a bit of the pick guard and possibly mounted a pickup cover there? Also, obviously the bridge cover is missing. Any idea on value? They are asking $395, but will entertain offers. I don't think they'll go down to $300, but want to know if anyone here thinks $350 is too much, considering the alteration.

Actually, I found a picture in another catalog (1976) that shows this bass having a pickup cover in the position between the pickups, and no bridge cover, so it looks as if this is JUST missing the pickup cover.

Hi Chucke99 Youīre absolutely right! I have this one also and there is a chrome "pickup cover", but itīs placed between the two pickups. I couldnīt think of any purpose for that except for "decoration" or maybe to use it as a thumb rest? As for the rest the bass seems in original condition. And the bridge cover isnīt missing: this model never had a bridge cover. I think that 350 dollars is a fair price: itīs hard nowadays to find any Ibanez from the seventies below 400 dollar, so Iīd say: go for it! Harry |

Update: I now own this bass. It's a 2354B, serial F78..... It's missing the pickup cover and one of the Volume witchhat knobs. I moved the thumb rest back to its original position, and it left three very visible holes, so I touched them up ever so slightly with a little dark brown acrylic paint, just so they won't stick out. \image(1) \image(2) \image(3) -Chuck |
