Was the neck pup swapped for a Super 80?

I asked him that question and he says it has the same engraving as the bridge pickup. He also swears there's no serial number on the neck plate, but I can see one there in the picture, I just can't make it out.

Guys...whats the confusion on this one ? Its a '77 (serial number I775043 is in the auction) which does indicate that Super 80's were stock. Please note the sticker on the back of the headstock that states Super 80's. At some point, the bridge pup was switched out. Other than the switched bridge pup, this guitar looks pretty much stock.

The seller is extremely optimistic on the price as even the minty ones sell in the $350-$425 range-with the correct pups....

The seller doesn't know how to read the serial number:
"This guitar was made in 1976 ( Serial#I775043) and is around 31 years old."

It's from August, so that's 29 years and 11 months.

This one is already beginning to look like a Performer, with that Gibraltar bridge.
That bridge seems in very good shape BTW.

Is it original on this guitar? If not, it's a nice part for the restauration of someting more valuable. The NOS ones are still $135.-

Hi all!

First of all: Ginger, I775043 points to September 1977. We discussed that item before, I believe.
What puzzles me more is the fact that this LP copy has the newer pickguard. It's bigger than what we usually see and has the shape of the thinline pickguards (and the ones we find on the Performer series). I always wondered if these were "stock mounted" or if they were replacements. I now strongly believe that several LP copies left the factory with these pickguards.

I believe the latest models came in this configuration. "Performer" pickguard instead of the classic triangular one, fancy bridge/tailpiece, Super80 pickups, speedknobs and startuners.

Harry, you're right. I was a little "in de bonen". H=8 and I=9, that's obvious.

Thanks for the info Dave, Harry and Paul, but I don't see a "fancy tailpiece".
Isn't this a normal "stop tailpiece"?

Paul and Dave,
I always think of the curly one when I read "fancy"... is that my mistake? Do you mean the "deluxe fancy"?
Or do you mean the one with the attached cloud?

Thanks for the eye-opener, Harry.
Now I see what gave me the "Performer" impression: the pickguard.
