Hi Tef

I also have one in my collection and I can tell you that it is a very versatile guitar with many useful sounds "within the reach of your hand".
More sutable for bluesy and jazzy stuff than for heavy stuff, though.

Do you use a low-high impedance transformer? Do you also need those when you plug directly into a Pod or into a preamp?
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get any photo's of the guitar now that the bidding has ended on ebay, is there a way around this?

Oh, a Les Paul Recording... I had one of those for a few years! Cool guitar... definately on the heavy side but a pretty guitar that has wayyyy too many switches and knobs for me to get used to, lol. You'll enjoy it, nice thick round neck on the one I had too... way different from any of the other Ibanez LP's I've had. Nice purchase!

Goat,
Just a slight correction: the pictured guitar is a LP Professional model, not a LP Recording. The recording looks like this (compare electronics):

Interesting, didn't know they made two different models... I bought, showed mine here to everyone as a Recording, no one corrected me, and sold it a few years later as a Recording, so go figure, lol! Is one more rare than the other? Were they made over the same time period or were they different variations of the same idea basically?

I think they are roughly the same sort of guitar. Both have low impedance pups and lots of sound possibilities. The recording had a switch to change from low to high impedance. This does not come on the professional. Both were made throughout the seventies though both are relatively rare.

Hi Goat

According to my "administration" the Recording model have been in production from 1971 until 1978 (last appearance in the 1977 price list) and the Professional model was made from 1971 until 1977 (last appearance in the 1976 price list).

Over the last 6 years of collecting Iīve seen the Professional more often than the Recording.
Both are fine and versatile guitars but I think the Recording is far more appealing. But thatīs of course a matter of taste.

Kind greetz,
Harry

Good info Harry, thanks! One other question now that I think about it... did Gibson ever make both of these fellas or were these Ibanez models variants of Gibson designs? I'm not sure I've ever seen a Gibson LP Recording or Professional like either of these.

Hi Goat

Yes, Gibson has made both models. The difference was of course: the Gibsons always had set necks and massive, carved tops. The Ibanez versions were produced cheaper and had bolt on necks and arched plywood tops. However the Ibanez Professional model was also available in a set neck version. Until now I never saw an Ibanez Recording with a set neck construction and I never found any info of its excistance anywhere.
