Oh my!!!! Does the description say exactly what happened?

I'm shocked that it's gotten such high bids. There doesn't look to be any salvageable parts.

The post says he had a fire in his appartment. The guitar was hanging on the wall and got superheated and smoked. He had a strat sitting on the floor which was left unharmed.

He says the wood is okay. All the plastic, finish is part or totally melted.

Man ! the prices are crazy in Europe.

This would be a cool project for around $100-$150 no more.

Reminds me of the strat that Frank Zappa snagged one night after the Mothers played a gig with Hendrix. Hendrix had torched it. Here's a british news report on it, pre-auction:

The only post-auction report I could find said the guitar was put up for sale in 2002 but didn't get the minimum bid of $1,000,000.

I was thinking: You could leave the finish as is, probably would need a new neck if the fire had warped the original, but then put on the new hardware and bada-bing, bada-boom: $1,000,000 guitar.

A guy here in Melbourne bought a Fender Protector case off me a few weeks ago. He brought the guitar with him. A Mid 70's hard tail Strat. It too had been in a severe fire in his home studio. It was totally awful and played totally awful too. He said it was a constant remider of the day 10 years ago when he lost a 1960 dot neck 335, a mid 60's Strat and some other nice goddies in the same fire. I tried to imagine the scene as he described kicking the ashes of his babies after the fire brigade put the fire out. It made my skin crawl! The 70's Strat was the only guitar to survive but it was very very badly charred.

This was for sure a "fake auction" , or you have to be very very very very very very very mad to pay that money for that, even a same clean model would hardly go for so much.........
