I am not 100% sure but I believe it is an Ibanez replica of a Rickenbacker 4001S bass. Color is red. I am no more into music, just want to know if it has any collectors value. As I said I bought it back in the early 80s but it was already used then. So it might be some 30 years old. I can partly answer your question, yes, vintage Rickenbacker copy basses are collectable - regardless of the brand. This is largely due to their scarcity, which is accentuated by the difficulty involved in actually selling them. This is because Rickenbacker Corp owns all of the design's trademarks & protects them very vigorously. They treat selling a vintage copy as a breach of their copyright, and are very aggressive in preventing such sales, meaning it's become near-impossible to market them through online outlets such as Ebay. As to whether it's an Ibanez, the only way to really be sure is if it has "Ibanez" engraved on the truss rod cover. Having said that, if it's a 4001S copy, which would have dot inlays, then it's unlikely, because as far as I know, Ibanez never sold a copy of that model. However, other brands did - I can think of Maya, Greco, Fernandes and Kasuga/Heerby, all of whom made dot-neck Rick copies, and there are doubtless many others. As you might have guessed, I have a particular interest in Rickenbacker copies - and the originals too - so I'd be very interested to see some photos.
