I'm in doubt about the model number we're talking about here. It has features of two different model numbers: ** It could be a 2351M because of the striped top, the chrome hardware, the creme plastic parts. BUT: it has no split diamond headstock inlay and it should have one because of the "open book" head shape. Some catalogue pictures might show no inlay, but that's because the pictures were retouched in order to use them for other brand catalogues as well. Besides: the stripe pattern on the 2351M is more of a regular "pin-stripe" type and these stripes are more wavey like on the model 2340. ** It could be a 2351AV, because the upper bout (surrounding the 3-way switch) is not completely sprayed dark (like it's the matter with the 2351M) but only has dark rims, following the body contour and because there is no headstock inlay (the AV only had "Ibanez" on the headstock - no inlay). BUT: The 2351 AV did not have stripes and had gold finished hardware. Or is it even a 2340??? Here are the pics. Tell me what you think. (Apart from al this fuzzin': it's a nice guitar though!) It doesn't appear as a stock line in any of the catalogues...thats why I feel its a spot production model to test the water so to speak...I personally would have bought half of the original run to sell to the market place at that time. It would have to be classified as a Rare Bird ! No inlays on the headstock as the original bursts wouldn't have any either. Just a silk screen "Les Paul Model" so no way they would put that on there. Tokai tried that and got their knuckles wrapped. Another thing that strikes me about the flame top is its classic "eastern maple" look as on the original 50's sunbursts. Maybe the factory went out their way to choose some authentic looking maple. Maybe it all got too pricey so they gave up. Harry, is it a bolt neck? six
