Hi all.
I'm new to this board so apologies if I am covering ground already covered.

I am a big fan of japanese replica guitars from the 70s. I've had numerous Les Pauls, SGs, a Tele Custom etc etc. At the moment I have a wonderful Antoria SG.

In addition to this I recently picked up a Dan Armstrong copy branded as a CSL. CSL stuff I've had before (like Emperador in Australia) seems to be 100% Ibanez with a new logo. This appears no different. Its identical to the one in the old Ibanez brochures albeit with a mother of pearl "CSL" on the headstock.

I presumed that they were just imported by Charles Summerfield Ltd and rebadged. However the review on Harmony Central of the CSL is by an owner who says the Lucite bodies for the CSLs were machined in the UK. He actually worked for the company that did it and he thinks maybe 200 max were made.

Did CSL import the necks and hardware and then make their own bodies? Or were the Ibanez ones also made in the UK and then exported back to Japan for fitting with necks and hardware?

All this aside. Its a mighty guitar!

Hi

I worked for Summerfields and they would never have went to that much bother on a rock guitar. One of the owners was a very respected Jazz musician and sneered at non-jazz orientated guitars. They did commission some Macaferri made guitars which some were bloody good. If the bodies were made in the UK then so would the Ibanez/Antoria verions have been.
