Epiphone vs. Ibanez Les Paul

Author Message Bluz Username: Bluz Registered: 08-2005 Posted on Monday, August 29, 2005 - 11:15 am:    I wish to have Ibanez LP Custom copy 1977 with all new gold hardware and near mint condition, but shipping costs and taxes are 40%. What do you think is it better to buy Ibanez for &750(including taxes) or 3 year old Epiphone for $500.I`m interesed in sound quality not in collectible worth. Thanks. Bigmike Username: Bigmike Registered: 10-2002 Posted on Monday, August 29, 2005 - 4:07 pm:    Harness means Wiring, Tone and Volume pots - the pickups and wiring on the Epis are cheap with a capital C... you don't get something for free in the guitar world. It is likely the tuners and bridge are junk also. I'd say buy the Ibanez - you cannot expect decent guitars that will give you years of satisfying playing to be cheap - if you want cheap expect to be dissatisfied with what you buy. Save your money and buy something good. Big Dave_g Username: Dave_g Registered: 01-2002 Posted on Monday, August 29, 2005 - 11:18 pm:    Big....You rule, couldn't have said it better myself...Except one comment-as an avid Ibanez collector and player I would tell you that the quality of the vintage Ibanez ('76-'79) is amazing for the price (although the prices seem to get stronger everyday) but you might have to settle for a great playing and sounding guitar that has "character" marks and , perhaps , some pitting of the chrome-if your loooking for a really nice pristine looking guitar (a la coffee table), you may have to get EPI and "Ibanize" it. I have a couple of vintage Gibson SG's that I took the Dimarzios out of and refitted with Super 70's...sound even better than the 70's era PAF (IMHO).. The "golden" years of '76-'79 preferred of course. You can't go wrong, and you will have a great guitar for life. Hassle with the EPI if you want...but you will have to work on it to get it decent, and when you add up the equipment and labor, it will probably cost you more anyway. I hope seller will forgive me, but even if I want to I couldn`t (my first ebay busines almost). He offers only money order and our bank office don`t let me to use it for internet shopping. Now I decided this: I`ll buy that f...... Epiphone to satisfy my need for LP sound, meanwhile I`ll checking European e-bay for a nice, cheap Ibanez, Greco or Tokai. I think it`s the best possibility so far. You really helped a lot. Have you considered one of the newer Ibanez Artists? For the money they are hard to beat and available world wide. If you must go for a Greco or Tokai, look at the Tokai Love Rock series. They even give Gibson LP a run for their money at a much lower price point. I don't think there's many around though, apart from the 2 on aussie ebay in the last month no-one seems to have heard of Profile LPs (only strats and teles usually).
