And, as usual, it concerns a guitar I recently bought. I have however taken a bit of time to see if others have asked the same questions i had in mind. I think the dating to 70/71 comes from pics from a guy called Moody asking about his http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/13/5082.html?1057487545 On the catalogue for 70/71 however, i noticed that they were the non-logo version. So where does mine fit in? I'm guessing logos were only ommitted on USA bound ones? Description: very very very worn and semi-abused.. My question is, is this true? The pickup polepeice screws are flat, and many years ago were gold. Hopefully these pups are the originals. The soldering looks "first time" onto big old looking pots (500k), using a biggish grey wiring. I've been cleaning it up and goodness me, lots of funky gunk! Then i found white powder that i realised was cake flour in some of the cavaties, nooks cranies. I remember goths used to toss flour at performers in, well, goth bands. Ha. Anyway. As usual too, rough current value. (just so i can calm the wife) I paid about the equivalent of 3 new release CDs. So it's no way about being ripped off. Further descriptions: Fairly savage mother of pearl inlays, a bit rounded at edges and not 100% snug. Plasic tuner pegs. Pickup pole screws are flat and flush. Knocking the "top hump" reveals it's a bit hollower. Rounded at the last fret. Binding is a little dodgy in it's detailing. Black knobs, with words on silver (pilgrim hat?) Made in Japan on neck plate. (upside down i think) And from the little gap i assume the neck has a shim added for exagerrated tilt. (the only obvious tinker) I assume that this axe is not blessed with the famed Super-70's? What gauge string works best on this scale length, if i usually play 11's on a strat or tele type? Value, year, model no, advice, no-nos, and other comments greatly appreciated. Thanks. Not much to add to your knowledge since you've done your homework. You got an early, around 1971, Ibanez 2350. The pups look original to me. Probably the Maxon single coils-in-a-humbucker-casing. The wiring you describe fits that too. Definetly not Super70's. They (super70's)look (and sound!) different and started appearing somewhere around 1974. Correct hardware all over on your beauty. You are right about the neckplate. On the ones I have they are the other way around. These should all have a script Ibanez logo but the guitars were photographed without a logo, or the pics were retouched, to be able to use the catalogues for different brandnames. You sure got a steal on that one. Advice: enjoy it or sell it to me. Many thanks for your response. i sometimes see nice "older" script logo stuff. But not often. There's a shop here which has about five of those heavy, solid "original design" type LP/SG guitars. Not sure what they called (double cutaway, very much like the famed Yamaha Santana plaed. Anyhow, I'm finding the joy of seeking/collecting Ibanezes a bit dangerous and potentially addictive. So, i think I'm going to leave my 2350 as is. Unless hunting super 70s is really worth it (sonically) But then again i like the existing pups. VERY little hum for singles. Yet still fat. and they feel fairly heavy. P-90 esque sound? Pots are scratchy - what can i squirt in them to sort it out? Q20 (WD-40)? Baby's Not for sale, but if i was forced, what (in lets say US dollars) what should i not go under. The condition is, as i say, fairly scratched, scuffed, and tarnished. I cannot see if this is the case in your pic but you should have noticed that when taking the pic. Start breathing again, it is not worth that much. A new set of strings, this baby really plays nice. And the sound is great. Even on really hight gain, there is very little hum/noise, so I'm guessing that somewhere along the line, gold plated humbuckers have been added. Or the stock singles are real quiet and raunchy. They're potted in a reddish brown wax, with thick grey wiring. Very happy...now to get one of those Artist guitars. What do i look for in one of these?
