Tuning machine/head replacement for 1...

Author Message Bodenross Username: Bodenross Registered: 01-2005 Posted on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 3:07 pm:    The machine heads on my '77 Howard Roberts 2453 need replacing. These were replaced prior to my acquisition of the guitar. They are at present Grovers which need replacing (I wish they were still the 'star' tuners!). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a 'sympathetic' replacement for this vintage? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately I should have said that all the hardware is gold coloured. That's a real pity because getting hold of any type of original star tuner is tricky! Many thanks for your response though. Mind you, do you think your spare tuners could be replated? and if so how much are you looking to get for them?
