Hi, I'm new here though I bought my first Ibanez in around 1975 in the UK. I now have a an ATK400 bass and a brand new AFST78T but I'm by no means a collector. I now have the chance to get this old Ibanez SG and I wondered what you experts think about it? To be honest I really just want to make sure I don't pay over the odds for something and if I decide I don't like it I can get my money back. So, here she is, any comments? what would be a reasonable price to pay?

Hi Nobster! Welcome aboard! Nice SG, though these are not rare and this one has a non-original Di Marzio pickup (and sticker) in/on it. So for the collector it's not good enough (unless the original pup is still there), but for a player it might be a hell of a guitar. I own a few Ibanez SG's myself and I love the necks and the overall playability. I'd say this guitar would be worth around 300 US dollars. Kind greetz, Harry |

Thanks for the info. I hesitated and finally didn't go for it. For the record it went for 183 euros here in France so I suppose that was a good deal for someone. |

This model was my first Ibanez guitar. I bought one brand new in early '76. I don't remember the rounded fretboard corners, so it must have been a '75 or later. I also thought mine had the double sail headstock inlay, but it was a long time ago and maybe my memory is wrong. I bought it for $275.00, which included an old ratty case (rope for a handle). |
