I just added a new guitar to my collection. I think it's a 1974 2344 Meldoy Maker copy. Musta had a hum added to it at some point though. Seems to me the volume knobs are wrong too, aren't they? Anyhow, I have't seen too many of these around, and the price was right, so I couldn't resist! Anyone else out there have one of these?

Hi John Yep!!!!! And Iīm very, very happy that the price stayed pretty low. I mean: 460 dollars for such a rare beauty! This was the first time I saw one on Ebay that was in original condition. All the Melody Makers I saw before had changed pickups, Badass bridge, exchanged tuners or whatever, but this was the first in my 6 years of collecting Ibanez that I encountered an "all original" one. Herīs a picture (taken from the auction). My next hunting object will be the ivory double 6.....what a good start of the new year for a collector! Kind greetz, Harry |

I was watching it too, but was a little concerned about that stud that looked to have been pulled out from the bridge. It looked secure/firm now, didn't look like it caused much damage to the top that couldn't be repaired or cleaned up. Dings and knicks didn't look bad at all for the age... looks like you did good Harry! Congrats on the purchase! Let us know how it sounds when you get it... I'll be prepared to kick myself for not bidding, lol. |

Well, I've managed to score the guitar I've been chasing for a few years now. A 1975 Ibanez Melody Maker 2344 to go with my Jnr 2343. I haven't had much of a chance to look her over yet as it arrived to day we were due to go on holiday ( a week on the Great Barrier Reef) This one has the serial number stamped on the bottom of the fretboard, which is something I only heard of up until now. The only thing not original is the bridge (I think???).

Nice score Snowjays! Reminds me of an old Gibby melody maker I used to have only mine was a single pup till I modded it. |

Snowjays: Ahhh, very nice! I've wanted one of these too. For nostalgic reasons as much as for the Ibanez collector's aspect. Actually, the Gibby MM that Freak wrote about was mine until I sold it in 1980. Strange coincidence, huh? The thing about the original Gibby MM was I always wished that the very thick collar on the neck joint was more graceful (but it was a low budget, student guitar when designed). The Ibanez copy fixed that "design flaw". So, they actually improved on the original! |
