Hi Can anyone help? I have an Antoria '73 Les Paul copy, set neck, red sunburst, star-backed tuners, chrome hardware, comfort-scoop on the back of the body. No S/N, no identifying stickers. This is model #2386 according to the 1973 catalogue I sourced on this site. I was wondering if the original pickups - open zebra-striped humbuckers - are in fact Super 70s? They do NOT have anything stamped on the back, only the number '14802' stencilled in paint sprayed on the bottom of the casing. The neck sounds beautiful, but the bridge sounds weedy. Grateful for any help. h |

You are crossposting...........and? Jim. I would say probably Super 70's in your guitar. If the bobbins are black and white as opposed to black and creme zebra then definately Antoria Super 70's. Same pickup as the Ibanez but just with an ink stamp number on the bottom. But a photo would help. I assume you are in the UK? If you think the rear pickup needs a rewind send it off to Andy at Wizard pickups. Assuming the magnet/s are fine get it wound to a "PAF" spec. You won't be sorry. Will probably be about 50 quid. http://www.wizardpickupsltd.com/ six |

6 Thanks very much. Yes, the bobbins are b&w, so they are super 70s, then. As a matter of fact, I found this model in a catalogue here, http://www.noahjames.com/vintagepage/copies.html and it describes the 2386 as having two such pickups, at least on the Ibanez model. And I will investigate the re-wind, its a good idea. The bridge one has always sounded very thin to me, but the neck is, like I say, very sweet. I have read here that other people share the same view and replace the bridge p/up. I have a Rio Grande BBQ somewhere I may try. But I don't want to ruin the original specs on the guitar...anyway... And, hey, "You Don't Mess Around with Jim (OR Slim)". Unless, of course, I cross-post. Cheers h |

Harry I put the same question on the other forum where Jim the Old Ibanez Bloke answers your questions, thus duplicating my request at the cost of spoiling your reading pleasure. Shoot me. Shoot me now. h |

Don't misunderstand me, Slim! I don't care if someone crossposts, but I was wondering what this was all about. I think Olaf should not have needed to comment on that in the first place. He's not the webmaster, John is. After all, I remember Olaf's multiple inputs/questions about his Jazz Bass copy a while ago, so who's calling the kettle black? Harry |

I'm sorry that I did hurt your feelings, guys. By the way, these multiple inputs/questions about my Jazz Bass copy was in a time that i didn't know that crossposting is not cool. And on a bassite from Holland crossposting is seen as irritating, so I thought the same here. |

Olafreijnders I understand and, of course, no hard feelings. I actually agree with you, I was just trying to ensure I got an answer. Harry I appreciate your input, as, indeed, I appreciate this site in its entirity, and would not wish to cause any misunderstanding or ill-feeling. I am usually a bit drunk at this time of night - hey, I'm working on it - and any mis-communication is entirely due to my intake of the demon drink. So, I hope we're all cool. And the bar's open, so I'll see you there... h |
