Challenger Les Paul?m

Author Message Therockmonster Username: Therockmonster Registered: 05-2006 Posted on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 - 11:41 pm:    I am new to this board and just acquired an Ibanez Challenger. The serial number dates the guitar to September, 1977. It is a Les Paul style guitar, but it does not have a Les Paul headstock. It has a maple neck and fretboard, with a skunk stripe going up the back of the neck. It says "Ibanez Challenger" in old style script, and has 6 in a row tuning pegs, with a Fender style headstock. Can anyone please tell me what model this is? The fit, action, and intonation is perfect. The serial number is CI770002. I don't feel the neck has been replaced as everything is correct vintage. Looks like you ran into that roadblock. You've got to process them with a software program that can make them smaller. This LP with a Strat neck sounds familiar. Didn't someone mention this last week? The problem was that the scale length on an LP and Strat are different (24.75 vs. 25.5, I believe) and it would have necessitated a repositioning of the bridge. Pictures sure would help. I have never seen that body style on any Ibanez LP replica. The hardware is definitely either new or not Ibanez and those pups are funky, too. It's a beautiful mismatch, tho. Anything you can look at inside the body that would give an indication of origin? Seems like too many digits in that serial # too, for Ibanez, but I could be wrong. The pots are marked A500K and each has a capacitor marked 0473, 50/100. The main wiring color is blue. This guitar has awesome sound and action and also what appears to be a coil tap switch. The pickups are not marked that I could find. Harry Username: Harry Registered: 03-2001 Posted on Thursday, May 04, 2006 - 1:58 am:    Hi all The neck plate seems alright to me (for a challenger strat): "C" prefix stands for "Challenger", followed by a standard "One letter and 6 digits" serial number. The first to follow after the "C" is not the digit 1, but the letter "I", wich indicates that at least the backplate is from September. I also think that somehow this is NOT original Ibanez, but a put-together guitar. Now, Ibanez did build LP copies with 4 bolt necks (a friend of mine has a black one just like that one in fact) so who knows ?
