Pre-serial Destroyer question

I own a one and have also seen about four others over the last three years. The 75 (no #) and the 76 Destroyers are made the same. The 77 and 78 versions seem to have less space between the bridge and the pickup plus the pick-guard is not as true to the original 50's Gibson Explorers like the 75 and 76's Destroyers are. Still, these are all great guitars! I saw that Sunburst Destroyer on ebay last year and was very curious to know if it was indeed a factory finish or the owner had it painted.   Tbplayer Username: Tbplayer Registered: 4-2007 Posted on Tuesday, May 08, 2007 - 9:15 am:    i saw that one too. that was not the one i missed. mine was in lexington, ky. i called the guy who placed a for sale ad. he had to go on a business trip. so we met up 7 days later. he couldn't locate the guitar. when he asked his wife, she said "oh the guy came and got it" i said no i didn't. her reply was "who are you? Also the pots were changed. I've had this guitar pro-set up and i love the damn thing. Not sure if just me, but it's very very toppy BUT with tone on 2 has a thick creamy lead tone that makes me shut my Gibson cases. It's going nowhere now. Not sure if anyone noticed this but a serial number explorer just sold on ebay for $2,600.
