Are you crazy???

You MAY get 1/3 of what you're asking... with a LOT of luck!

Do you really need help to rip someone off?

You're fishing in the wrong pond, mate.

Hi Cbsr1130

What you try to sell for waaaay too much money is the Ibanez model 1910 and it was built around 1970/1971.
These guitars have a value from around 350/400 US dollars.
I think (and hope) that the price you're asking for it is based on the fact that you had not the slightest idea....
Otherwise: dream on!

Harry,

I found that the value/mint price on the Argus list was already very high. But I see you agree on that. I wouldn't spend that much on a wall hanger. IMO the good years of Ibanez start a few years later, with guitars that still meet standards of today. Playing is part of the fun too. So when I had the choice of how to spend a certain amount of money, I would choose a more playable younger vintage guitar. I wouldn't mind if it were a post-lawsuit model.

Argus says the list is for insurance estimations.
So the best thing to do, is to insure it for the price on the list and hope something happens, because I expect there's nobody on ICW who's willing to pay the Argus price.

The advantage of the list, is that is compact, alpanumeric and that almost all known types are on it. But it is not as thorough as the book you are planning with Hasy, of course...
For the time being I use it as an orientation aid (despite of all errors), next to the database of RusselW.

BTW
Do you estimate the "Meranti" guitar is in the same price range?

Patiently looking forward to your book,

Ginger

Ginger

I would definitely put the value of the "Meranti" guitar way higher than the value of a model 1910. As long as I'm collecting and hunting Ibanez I have seen these 1910's pops up on Ebay on regular base so there must be quite a few around. The "Meranti" guitar I'd never seen before, so for a collector this model is far more interesting.
Based on quality I'd say that both models might be equally good (or bad) , but based on rarity I'd say that the "Meranti" thinline has a higher collector's value. The exact value depends on how much a fanatic collector would be willing to pay.

Flatbag and others who are wondering what the h... I'm talking about,

This is the Argus list:
http://www.guitareelectrique.com/argus_iba.html

They are French/Swiss and sell guitars and a vintage guitar magazine called "GUITAR COLLECTOR", which you obviously can buy "en kiosque", so from the book stand.
The list on the internet is as they say for insurance estimates, and for evaluation your collection.

Quote:
"Cet argus est une orientation sur les tendances des quotations maximum utilisées pour des questions d'assurances et autres évaluations de collection.
La vraie valeure de vente ou spéculative dépend de l'état, du moment, de la mode.
Celle-ci reste basée sur l'offre et la demande et peut-être diminuée de 50% par rapport à notre argus maximum qui est calculé à 100%"

So, they are maximum estimates, that's something different than RusselW's database, which is based on real results on ebay.

As I understand, it's all based on the expertise of two guys. Sometimes the estimates are really too low, because nobody knows everything. It is an estimation aid. No more, no less.
Always compare with RusselW's database and always use the shared knowledge of a collectors community like ICW, because if you take the list too seriously, your insurance might be far too low (example the 2461 Johnny Smith at 1550 euros, which the Dutch vintage dealer Kees Dee estimates at 3500 euros), or you start asking ridiculously high prices for a guitar (example the 1910 Yamaha copy for 1000 euro or 1270 dollars, which Harry estimates at 350-400 dollars, and he knows what he talking about).

So what estimate you follow should depend on the purpose of the estimate. If you want to insure your 2461 Johnny Smith pick Kees Dee's 3500 euro estimate. If you want to buy one, compare the Argus list price with the prices for 2461s in 9 or 10 condition in RusselW's database and of course look what's left in your wallet.

If you don't have enough budget for a 9 or 10 condition guitar, try to find an 8.

As a collector, I would say, stay away from 7 and lower. But if you're just looking for a player and the price is really low you could go for it. But getting a player back in its original state is sometimes more expensive than expected. Good finish jobs for example are not cheap and some parts are really rare.

Another important decision aid is your own gut feeling. If it doesn't feel right, start communicating with ICW members. We've seen all kinds of trickery in the recent past, and it's only increasing.

Kind greetz,

Ginger Ale

Ginger,

Could we have that in a mathematical formula, and how is that in comparison with the current state of the Micro Economic environment of the EEC?
