Ibanez 2398 vs Crestwood ??

Author Message Dave_g Username: Dave_g Registered: 01-2002 Posted on Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 12:41 pm:    I just purchased a Crestwood badged guitar on EBay . This guitar looks exactly like the Ibanez 2398, right down to the covered/exposed pup configuration. Upon recieving the guitar w I was pleasantly suprised to find the git was all original and is -indeed-a derivitive of the Ibanez clone. The harness and PUPS (Maxxon 70's I believe) just reek Ibanez, and this guitar is-for all intent a purpose-an Ibanez 2398 with another label.....or so I thought.......... Upon exposing the back of the pickups to determine the originality, I discovered a very interesting construction detail which I HAVE NEVER SEEN in an Ibanez Clone..Namely that there are NO CHAMBERS under the flamed maple top. The plywood has been shaped and cut to fill the voids. The rest of the guitar is identical to the typical early 70's Ibanez clone-block mohagany body with a plywood top-except instead of the top being bent to appear like a carved top, this guitar has a shaped plywood top that has no voids under the top. The result is a heavier guitar with, I would imangine, more sustain ? Look at the following pictures and note the inside of the pickup routes with no chambers at all ! To my untrained eye, this "Crestwood" guitar is a better build quality than the typical Ibanez clones..... Any input on this issue would be appreciated....
