During my recent offline experience I had the time to to dress some frets and radius the bridges on some of my V's and I found something I never noticed before. They're mostly compound. My 2387CT korina is 7.25 at the nut and 10 at the end. One of my cherry 2387's is 12 all the way down the board but the other is 12 at the nut and 16 at the end. These are all pre serial. My '77 2387 starts at 10 and ends at a 12. I believe all Gibsons are cylinder, same top to bottom. I need to check the rest of my collection but has anybody else ever noticed the inconsistancy in the neck radius? It's not a bad thing,I just find it interesting. |

Ccs: How are you measuring the neck radius? Is there a tool or some "home-made" method I could use? I have a preserial number 2387 I'm in the process of restoring, so it's pretty convenient to check mine out. |

I have Stew Mac gauges but I've seen DIY plans out there. The notched ones are great(both narrow and wider spaced)because you can check both ends of the board with the strings still on.

Ccs: I downloaded and printed the Kinsman radius template. There's only 5 measurements on it and paper isn't the best material to make such a tool. But my 2387CT looks like 9-1/2" at the nut and 11" at the body joint. |
