I bought this Deluxe 59'er at a yard sale Saturday. I noticed that the pups look different than all of the other 59'ers I've seen on this site. What do you think?

This is my first attempt at posting a pic so I may have to try again if it doesn't work.

No, they are the original pups. I believe these were an upgraded version at the time around '73 or '74 and appeared in the Ibanez catalogue. Does it have the Gibby style headstock?

Yes, it has the Gibson style headstock with Ibanez
Deluxe 59'er Model written on it. There is no serial number on it, only Made in Japan on the neck plate.

All I can say is Whoa!!! Those pups are the hottest I've ever heard. I hooked it up to my POD and it definately sounds like Leslie West or Montrose. Super singing sustain. I'm impressed with this guitar.

Thanks for the info,
David

Nice catch, David! You'll find the catalogue Snowjays is talking about on:
http://db.musik-meinl.de/index.php?direct_mainmenu =/service/katalogarchiv
Hit "Ibanez Gitarren", go to "page" 13, there you'll find the "1976 String Accessories" catalogue. The pickup is on page SA-9 (No. 2351-62)

Thanks, Telstar! I was very lucky finding that guitar. All I have to do now is find a few parts for it. It has only four tuners on it and it's killing me not being able to play it.

Thanks alot for the info!

David

David

Just curious: how much did you pay for it?

Hi Harry, I didn't know anything about a Deluxe 59'er when I bought it. I paid $25.00 for it and it came with a new guitar stand and a chord dictionary.

What do you think it's worth?

Wow....Alone the new stand and the chord finder cost that much....so you´ve got the guitar for free. 25 bucks...that´s a real steal!!!!
If you should be able to restore it in (as good as) original condition I´d say that you have a guitar that´s worth around 450 dollars (average...but I like that wavey-striped top a lot and so maybe this could end up even a bit higher if put on for sale on Ebay)....So try to get two original tuners and try to find a scratchplate (single layer creme) too, just to be complete. Probably no existing replacement scratchplate won´t fit immediately; you´ll have to make it fit by adapting the contours, especially around the pickup rings. It will be worth every penny and every effort!
Cheers, you lucky guy!!!!

Kind greetz,
Harry

$450.00? That's awesome news!!! I am definately going to restore it because I like it so much. It may be the guitar I've been looking for all of my life. I am floored by the sound and the way the neck fits in my hands. I've set up the action a little high, but yet it is very easy to play.

Thanks very much for the info Harry.

I'm one happy fellow!

Cheers!
David

My first real electric was a Ibanez Deluxe 59'er that I used to play through a 100 watt Marshall.
The Deluxe 59'er might have a bolt on neck but it rocks as hard as any Gibson I've played and believe me I've played a few.
I'm pretty sure the pickups are Super 70's.

Are the pick ups with square poles called Super 60's?
