Advice sought on Ibanez replica's pur...

Author Message Shane P Posted on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 6:29 pm:    I have an opportunity to purcase two lawsuit Ibanez electrics, both from 1975.The first is an SG replica with a bigsby style trem and is in very good condition except for a small lacquer crack on the body an non original tuners. The second is a LP custom black beauty copy,bolt on. Non original tuners ovation?? and non original pickups, one looks like a Dimarzio, some rust on the plate on the neck and apart from that good condition. Both are definitely 1975. Both play well. an sound good.Both are supplied without case. The guy is asking Aud$800 for both not negotiable. These are getting harder to come buy in recent years and I am wondering if I should pull the trigger.To Mark, Spiro, John and others what should I do, What should I tell my wife for gods sake! I am running out of hiding places for guitars. I also know that as these getting much harder to find if I don't move quickly, they'll be gone.So whats the verdict pass or play. JohnS Posted on Saturday, January 20, 2001 - 8:22 am:    Shane: Are you saying that you can get both for $800 or both for $1600? If you could only get one, I'd ask if you have an LP or SG already? If so, go for variety and get the other one. Do you want them as players or collectibles? If collectible, then the SG is only in need of original era tuners to make it "right". Pickups for a '75 LP replica might be very hard to come by. If only interested in players, pick the one that sounds best (or makes you look cool!) What should you tell the wife? Hmmm...whatever it is, it better be whispered soft and low into her ear and accompanied with some sort of gift offering! I already have a 74 setneck LP and a PF400 which also is similar, so the SG would be nice. The trem might even help the cool factor as you mention.The bolt on LP is mighty nice however. To really complicate my life, since this post I have seen an '81 AS100 totally unexpectedly, for a very good price.This is typical of my luck, I can go for a year and not see anything that interests me, then in two days, three guitars I want. Of course I'll be lucky to scratch together the money for one. Asset stripping, pleading forgiveness from wife, and body parts on Ebay may all ensue.Will let you know how I get on and hopefully upload a picture. The Artist is the frontrunner, as I don't have any semi and would love one.If by some stroke of madness, or genius, I get all three, I'll post photos of the replicas. These really are a superb quality semi.The one I obtained is in mint condition except some tarnishing of the chrome hardware.It also has the later non script style logo.Does anyone know exactly what year this logo changed to the more modern type. I'm impressed by the neck and the wide variety of sounds, I have been playing it through an old UE-400 into a Trace Elliot velocette twin, a wonderful thick chimey sort of tone.I'm a happy man! Posted on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 - 12:50 pm:    Shane/Mark I was wondering if both of your guitars (AS100 see-thru red) have a black line of binding next to the body before the chreme colored binding begins ?? Both my AS50 and AS100 have this but none of the other AS models I have feature this detail. Can anyone else add to this ? Mike G. It's funny how I only noticed it on the see-thru red finished ones. My "eyebones" aint what they used to be I guess ! Mike G. The cherryburst '81 Artist is a dead ringer for my '82. I remember your Artist 12 string with the unique Ricky-like tuners. It certainly cuts down on the size of the headstock. You mentioned in another thread that you recapped the circuit board in your EQ model. But I didn't see any pictures of an EQ on your web pages. The '81 Cherryburst is a very meaty guitar. Much heftier than a Gibson and more low midrange meat. Thanks for the comments on the collection.
