Ibanez SG 6/12 Double Neck Copy

After a few days ownership I am totally in love with this guitar. It came with OHSC and all tags intact. Here's a nice photo: Does anybody know how many were produced? Were they popular? I've seen a number of these come up on ebay...so, Jimmy Page probably helped to sell as many Ibanez copies as the "real deal". (Did your's come with sheet music for Stairway to Heaven?) Of course, the Eagle's live version of Hotel California video probably sparked some interest in these double necks, too. But your's does look to be in the best shape I've seen. Many I've seen sport the uncovered, zebra colored pups. So, I guess that configuration was standard. Any idea on the age? Does it have a serial number? How heavy is it? The twin neck is a 1976 model with bolt on necks. The serial# is on the 12 string neck plate. I have only seen one other of these in Australia which was a '75 cherry. That one had lawsuit headstocks, was clean but not mint. Its price was $1,395. I got mine for $550!!!! What I like about it is the really clean articulate tone it has. Sustain is also very good, better than some of my set neck models. This guitar really challenges you. Your technique has to be absolutely perfect to avoid muting any strings. You can fret barre chords all the way up the neck without much trouble - the action is nice and low. It is a heavy beast - I haven't weight it but I'd guess around 12lbs. All in all its a cool guitar that will really get the punters drooling at my next gig I'm sure. The April '74 issue had this ad in it: John, you raised the question of pickup covers on these. All photos of twin necks I have seen show the 6 string neck with uncovered pickups, including the catalogue photo on JD's site. However the guitars in this ad all feature covers. Maybe they changed their standard pups later on? Anyway, here's another one on ebay. The seller says it's got all original parts. I saw one on ebay a while back and thought that it must have been a frankenstein deal. Looks like it was stock, after all! orval Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    i own six early sg doubles, none of which have covered pickups on the 6 string side, including a early model that uses a mini toggle to switch necks(located between the bridges. usually the 6 string neck pickups have a metal case around the pickup but the pickup face and pole pieces are exposed. the stable includes early walnut 6/12 burgundy 6/12, white setneck 6/12(i have two of these, does that make it a quad? instead of two twins )white 6/6, and a white 4/6 with an ibanez manufactured bigsby on the 6 side (non original although the parts are original) a studio 6/12, and an artist 6/12 anyone have an artwood twin for sale to complete my collection? It took about twelve months to get it delivered from Ibanez! It's was sold in the UK as a 2402DX and is a 6/12 in ivory. I'm not sure what year it is but somewhere I have the receipt. Does anyone know what its worth? It in immaculate condition apart from one small dent on the back. The neck is the bolt-on type and long ago I replaced the knobs with speed knobs (I think I've still got the originals somewhere). That roughly 150 - 450 pounds. The worth of the guitar depends on the market you wish to sell in. If you advertise in an isolated regional market the number of buyers and level of knowledge will be low. Therefore the price you can achieve will be low. However, if you advertise to a world wide market, you can ask a high price because collectors and others with the right information will see your guitar and will be prepared to pay a decent amount for it.
