Author Message Dale Williams Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    I recently acquired a very interesting guitar. It appears at first glance to be a 59 standard. It is tobacco sunburst. The headstock has a gibson logo and les paul logos, but the gibson logo is a decal instead of inlaid. The guitar plays and sounds great. The top appears to be solid maple, nicely figured but not a flame top. The neck appears to be one piece maple, and the back appears to be mahogany but has some nice stripes in the wood. I sent a video representation to George Gruhn and he said he thought the guitar was a forgery. The serial number is inked on back of headstock in black ink, and is 9 8762. I'll get some photos soon and maybe someone can help me figure out just what this guitar is. JohnS Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    Dale: It sounds like an interesting mystery. Ibanez made copies of the 59LP. How accurate they were I don't know. I hope you didn't pay a real '59 Gibson price for it. If you have a problem with uploading pictures, email me and I'll help out. I would like to sell it as I don't play this gituar very well(I'm more comfortable on acoustic). I'm having alot of trouble finding a value on this gituar & in contacting local music shops have had quotes ranging from $300-$1000 AUD (austrailian). This gituar is in excellent condition, made in the 70's, firebird, lovely bluesy/jazzy gituar. If anyone can help me with a valuation it would be highly appretiated. I haven't seen too many of them sold, but the few I have seen lately went for around 500 or so dollars US. Their real value may be higher. I recently purchased one in excellent condition within this price range. Be real wary of what shopkeepers tell you. They'll offer you bupkus and then try and sell it for heaps more than they paid. Try and sell it privately first. Dave_G (Dave_G) Posted on Wednesday, February 05, 2003 - 9:18 pm:    HELP !..I just picked up a Les Paul Recording copy-looks to be a '74-76 (Gibby Headstock, no serial number) The guitar is in FINE shape, no pitting or scratches, and the electronics look to be original (even the GIBSON logo Pickup looks like the original solder joint!)...The guitar sounds HORRIBLE ! I doubt that the electronics are working correctly-does anyone have a wireing diagram or a close up pict of the wiring of this guitar ? The fit and finish on this instrument denotes a well crafted effort, one would think that the tone etc would reflect the same level of craftmanship-I think its either wired incorrectly, or fried. One thing I noticed is that the Gibson pickup is wired directly to the small switches, while the top pickup is wired to the selector switch (like a les paul)..I'm so confused!!!!!! I have read a lot of great reviews on this guitar on the web, and I am hoping to get this thing right..Any help from the Collectors community is appreciated.... DAve Harry (Harry) Posted on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 2:47 am:    Hi Dave! First of all: your guitar is NOT a copy of a Gibson Les Paul Recording, but it's a Les Paul Professional. It has the model number 2372. But don't worry: everytime I see one of these it's always said to be a Recording, so you're not the only one making this mistake. Wiring problem!!! It seems that your guitar sound horrible because some nitwit tried to fix up his guitar the wrong way and succeeded very well. Unfortunately I can't help you with a wiring diagram, but have you tried internet by searching on the topic: "guitar wiring"? Maybe there's a good guitar luthier/repairman in your neighbourhood? It has no serial number so i assume it is a pre 75 an looks just like early jimmy page lespauls. Two s&0, the neck one silverplattered and the bridge one, white with squared screws (?) it is a flame top bolt-on with a sandwich mahogany body and the bridge has white plastic pieces, wich i hate. the guitar sounds and plays great ans as i told you, i don´t know the model or the year this guitar was mae. any ideas?
