I saw an LP recording copy today,open book headstock, no serial #.
These really are a strange beast.Has anyone ever played these, how do they sound? That is a lot of controls onboard what the hell do they all do.What do low impedance humbuckers sound like anyway.Anyone have idea of the value of these things.The guy was asking Aud$400.
The guitar was in VGC except the plastic pickup cover on one pickup was cracked.It has the same star backed tuners as my 74 LP custom.If I bought it would I ever play it, I would never be likely to record with it(or any other guitar for that matter).
I must say that I thought the quality a little higher than other bolt on LP's of that era.The walnut finish was translucent so you can see the grain on the top and it generally felt of a higher standard, neck, etc.
Did anyone even play the original Gibsons, or were they a bit like the L6s, more of a curiosity.
This is the same pawnbroker who seems to keep unearthing old script Ibanez regularly. |

Les Paul Recordings have low impedence pickups because that's what Les Paul himself wanted. They are very low noise and retain more highs than a standard high impedence humbucker. They have a lower level of output.
Les Paul still plays with the low impedence pickups most of the time. Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac is another artist who swears by low impedence pickups. He's had them on his custom made guitar since the mid '70's.
I have never used such pickups myself so I can't really comment on them from an experienced point of view. $400 sounds OK if its in good condition, but even bona fide Les Paul Recordings are not highly prized guitars these days. I think if you could get it for $325 you may as well grab it.

Apparently these guitars have a transformer built in so that you can output either a high or low Z signal. They have a master vol and tones, a slider switch to select hi or lo Z, 3 tone switches and an 11 position rotary tone switch like a vari-tone!!!
Apparently you can achieve something over 100 individual tone settings through the available options.
If it is in good gondition I think it would be a fun guitar to have.

Thanks for the information, I have always enjoyed your informative posts on this forum.I certainly am keen on the LP recording, thing is I have spent $1000 on 2 guitars(AR500 AS100) in the last couple of months.My wife is a very understanding woman, however the inventory currently stands at
8 Ibanez, 2 Gibson, 1 Fender,and a Takamine acoustic.All for someone who is strictly a hobby player.I also have at last count roughly 8 valve amps.
I think I have to have a look at myself and draw the line somewhere.Just the cost of keeping reasonably fresh strings on these is hard enough.
If you would like the guitar for yourself drop me an email and I will send out the details for you and I will help ship it to Perth.
I have to confess I really have the bug bad for script Ibanez guitars.I could always trade the Fender in plus some $$$ for me I suppose.
I wonder how faithful to the original in terms of all the electronics you mention the Ibanez is.I am also curious as to the age, as there was definitely no serial #.Just the usual "made in Japan" on the 4 bolt plate.I wonder if any other Ibanez junkies out there have owned or played these. |

Thanks for the offer. I currently have my eye on a '78 Artist EQ, so Spiro has my blessing.
I understand fully the dilemma you have regarding the number of guitars and amps you have. It's great that you wife is supportive - I'm very lucky in that department too. The string problem is difficult. I find that some of my guitars just don't get played too often because of old strings. Imagine how difficult this must be for Maniac Mike!!
What are the 8 amps you have? I have 4. They are:
- 1993 Fender Blues DeVille 4x10"
- 1994 Fender Blues Deluxe 1x12"
- 1993 Marshall JTM45 Reissue
- 1996 Pignose Hog 20
I am on the lookout for a Fender Tweed Blues Junior too.

24 hrs is a long time for an Ibanez junkie and I've decided to go back tomorrow and try and cut a deal on this guitar.I didn't mean to mess anyone around but I think I might like this after all.

I have a Ibanez Les Paul recording and I have still not figured out all of the sounds available.
I'm actually not sure if it works as it was intended.
The string problem is a never ending situation so I have started buying sets of 10 packs at a time when I see a good sale on them (about once a month) and I use Fast Fret to keep them fresh as long as possible.
It's interesting to note that both of you have Fender Blues Deville 4x10's.
I have one of these also and I love the sound but it's SO LOUD I never really can play it at home past 2 or 3 without the windows rattling.
Most of the time I just use my little 15w Blues Junior instead.Great little amp for playing in the house.
Well, good luck with the purchases, time to go change some strings......

You're right about the volume on the Deville. I can't even gig with it over 3!! Only time I went louder was an outdoor gig!!
How is the tone on the Blues Junior?? I'm thinking I could gig with that sometimes for an on the edge tone at low volumes. That was the reason I bought the Deluxe, but that amp is almost as loud as the Deville!!

Is he still around? I've got one and I've only ever heard from one other person who has.
