Hi all!
Once again I ask my fellow Ibaneezers to tell me as much as possible about another Ibanez I have never seen before and wich is a stunning beauty. Description: It's clearly a Rickenbacker 330 copy (bi-level scratchplate, dot markers on a rosewood fretboard) although it has a tremelo tailpiece that makes it a bit of a 335 as well. It's beautiful cherry-red and it has the lowered part at the end of the body's top, where the tailpiece is. It has a 5-layer binding around the body, wich also has a long triangular soundhole, just like the original Rick has.All hardware is chrome.
There are two pickups that show 6 screw-polepieces and 6 rectagualar poles, so the pups look very simular to the pickups that can be found on old Hofner guitars. The headstock bears a screwed-on metal Ibanez script logo and six machine heads of low-budget quality, almost cheap Hondo-like. Where the original Rick has a three-way pup switch, this Ibanez has two small slide switches to activate or shut off each pup. The controlknobs are small black ones and have a "v" and a "t" on top. Jack output at the side of the body. The ends of the fretboard are round, so that would make it a very early '70's piece. The neckplate has no serial number, it even has no "made in Japan"; it only says "Japan". As I said: this guitar is a stunning beauty and sounds well: with both pickups activated it has a real rockabilly kinda sound.
Do these features ring a bell and can somebody tell me more about this guitar? (I'll see if I can get a proper scan someday......) |

Some of those features sound close to my work associates 335 type Ibanez which I posted pics of in the "Ancient Ibanez" discussion thread under the Hollow Body topic.
As far as I can tell his guitar is probably 1969. I say this because I've seen a pic off that European ibanez site of a 1970 model which is the same body and neck with better hardware.
