Can this SG be an Ibanez?

Author Message Musash Posted on Sunday, September 30, 2001 - 7:47 am:    I just bought a copy SG. The only text it has is 'Made in Japan' on the neck-plate. Color is the well-known brown/red. Can this be an Ibanez? It has a mop-inlay at the headstock: Did Ibaneze make copies without the name Ibanez on them? What other japanese brand made SG-copies? Harry Posted on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 2:13 am:    Hi Musash Could be an old Ibanez SG. I own an Ibanez Dan Armstrong plexi guitar copy that has no name on it either. I believe Ibanez made several guitars without a brandname on it during some period in the early seventies. The lack of a serial number means that it's built before mid-1975. The question about what other japanese brands made SG copies also can easily be answered: almost all of them! (Morris, Kasuga, Diamond, Aria, Hondo, Harimu, Sakai, ElMaya etc. etc. Enjoy your SG! Only differences are: mine doesn't have the inlay, but it has the Ibanez logo; Mine has black vol and tone knobs; mine has fret markes that up to the 21st fret (but that's probably because yours has pearl(iod?) inlays and mine has silver plastic inlays, my LP has pearl inlays that only go up to the 17th fret). The truss rod cover looks identical to mine. The tuning pegs look the same but mine arern't original. Mine doesn't have a serial number so I couldn't tell you how old it is. It's a joy to play. It's my favorite guitar, and it only cost me $300 Australian (US$150). Cheers. Mr C.
