Does anybody know anything at all about an Ibanez copy of the Gibson L5S made in the seventies?

Hi John!
You buyed that one that was in the dutch auction or are you planning to? I was hunting after it, too. Selling price 1500 guilders, but the seller told me he had got a higher offer, was that you?
The bidder was a guy who claimed to have a natural finish version and he was eager owing a sunburst too. But in that case I think the bidder is mistaken by the thought that the L5S is a jazzguitar, probably the ES 175-copy. Ibanez never made a natural finish L5S. The seller promised me to contact me if the transaction was called off.
Anyway: The Ibanez modelnumber is 2399 DX and so it's NOT a jazzer! Find a picture of the L5S on http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.de under the year 1973. Later on the set-up of the pickups changed: see under the year 1976: the oval goldplated pickups made place for normal sized goldplated humbuckers. The seller told me he had the old version, so with the oval pickups.
I hope I will get the opportunity to buy it, but I won't go any higher than 1500 guilders (wich is, by the way, around $1000 US).
Greetz,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Yes I did contact the seller about this guitar and No I did not buy it since it was not a jazzer. So hopefully you get a chance to buy this guitar.

Hi John!
Glad to be able to tell you that the seller phoned me yesterday. He told me about the confusion of this guitar with the jazz-model and asked if I was still interested. You bet, I am!!!! So next weekend I can add my 37th Ibanez to my collection. I know it isn't cheap, but it's a fairly rare model and with the old set-up of goldplated low-impedance pickups (pre-serial), so....
Tell you more about it next week!

Hi Harry,

Congrats on another great buy. 37!?! Sooner or later you will have to move to a bigger house or rent a place to start an Ibanez museum. Can't wait to pay you a visit early next year!

Hi Harry,

Here's a tip: There's a 2355 (es-175) for sale on markplaats.nl. Price is 2100,= guilders. Expensive but these are great guitars (I own one as you know).

Also someone is selling a firebird. The ad says the neckj was once broken but professionaly repaired. What do you thinjk?

Hi John
Yes, I saw both guitars for sale on the web. I think the 2355 is a good guitar and if it's original and in good condition it might be worth the price. But.....: in the last 6 weeks I bought 5 Ibanezses so my budget is running out a little.
Maybe at some other occasion; the 2355 is fairly often seen guitar and to be honest: I'm waiting for a cheap one because the prices for the Ibanez "jazzers" are way too high, I think. Did you know that a beautiful sunburst one with an awsome tigerstripe-back was offered to me two years ago for 1100 guilders (440 US$)? At that time I wasn't really "into" Ibanez yet, so I let it pass..... Stupid, huh? I called the guy about a year later, but the guitar was sold (of course). At this moment I would be willing to pay somewhere in the range of 1500 - 1750 guilders for such a guitar.
And as for the Firebird: that's exactly what I ment when I told you about having tears in your eyes when you look at such a demolished Ibanez: if this one was still okay, the selling price could be twice as high. This one misses the trem-arm, had a broken neck and worst of all: the pickup has been changed and therefore the routing has been made bigger. So you could never restore it, unless you're a guitar-repair wizzard. Fortunately I allready own a Firebird replica (no tremelo-arm also, damn! Do you happen to have one for me?) that's in good and original condition. So my problem is one of luxury; the pain is less because I allready "saved" one (as Hasy and I call it when we bought one). Nevertheless: it's still a great pity that this guitar is as good as "lost", looking from the collector's point of view.
Let's keep in touch!

Harry

Hi,
The Ibanez from marktplaats, I bought it.
It's a pre-lawsuit and despite of a couple of scratches it is in very good condition (eg. the back is 100 %) There is just some buzzing in the bridge PU but you only hear it when playing unplugged, a friend of mine also has this problem (on the same guitar). Have you guys ever heard of this or know a remedy ?

Also do you have tips what to do when the paint is falling off (there is a little spot on the guitar probably caused by a bump) ?

I think the guitar is better of with me than with you guys cause it is going to be played to the fullest !

(btw I started a thread earlier this week called '2355' questions)

regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Might want to check the springs in the pickup surround, if they're loose it could be causing the buzzing problem you mentioned. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Fred
