Finally got hold of the Pic's for this guitar and would like to work out what model it is ? I have had a look on the Ibanez Vintage page and it doesn't seem to be there . The serial # is E76.... so the year is correct. Thanks

Hello Goldentone! If your guitar has a bolt on neck (difficult to see in the picture) I am quite sure that you have a customised 2350 CS. The guitar you have has exchanged pickups and probably also the mountain rings, because these ones seem to be definitely wider than the original ones. The tone circuit has added mini troggle switches for coil tapping or fase switching and the 3-layer black/white/black pickguard is missing also. By the shape of the headstock (open book) you can tell that the guitar is made before 1976. (in 76 the headstock changed into more or less the Guild headstock shape). As so many other Ibanez guitars this one was also a victim of the customising-boom of the 80s. Probably to become a better player, but the purist-collector will feel sorry for this instrument being not in it's original shape. Greetz, Harry |

Hi Harry Yes it is a bolt on neck , beeing an Aussie guitar may explain the headstock design on a 1976 guitar . The P/U's I thought were original the super 77 swing tag is still in the case or didn't the 2350 come out with these ? So the coil tapping switches are non original as suspected . The tuners are non orig too although they are Ibanez star tuners , which ones did they come out with ? Many thanks Richard |

Hi Richard! Thanks for putting in some detail-photo's. I stick to the opinion that the pickups and the mountings are non-original, because the humbuckers are fixed with two adjustment bolts at one side and one at the other. Ibanez Super 70's were never fitted like that: they had only one adjustable bolt per side. The rings around the pickup a definitely wider than the standard mountingrings. If you change strings in the future, you might take the opportunity to take one pickup out and have a look. The combination old headstock ("open book") and a '76 serial number seems to occur from time to time: I myself own a Les Paul with even a '77 serial number that has the old headstock shape. Maybe they had a number of old necks in the factory and didn't bother to use these, even after the lawsuit. I'll come back to you about the tuners: At this moment I'm at work and don't have the proper information to know for sure. They have been changed on your guitar, that's obvious. If I'm not mistaking there were just standard ElCheapo's fitted originally. "Ai'll be baack". Harry |

Upon close scrutiny of the photo, I believe those ARE Super77 (not Super70) pickups. Are there separate mounting rings? Or are the pickups molded with the rings as an integral part? I attached a photo of a Super88 pickup for reference. The Superr77's are similar. Cheers Steve

Hi Harry & Steve From what I've read about "lawsuit guitars" these type headstocks were no longer used on guitars for the American market and all unused stock were sold elsewhere ( I'm no expert though ) . I'm still not convinced the P/U's are non original . Thanks Steve for the pic ( looks like my MC150DS with super 88's ) definetly not Super 88 but Super 77 I'm not sure about the mounting ring but I'm pretty sure it was seperate ( don't have the guitar here so I cant check ) . These mounting rings look different to the ones on super 70 P/U's . From what I remember it originally had a small Super 77 sticker on the back of the headstock but I'm not sure what happened to it and the Super 77 swing tag in the case kinda convinces me. Its a player so none of this really matters but it is fun to work out what you have got . Thx Richard |
