SG Copies; Too Close For Comfort?

However, I never really liked the fat feel of a real (Gibson) SG neck. So, my question is this; Are the Ibanez SG copies true to the Gibson neck profile? My preference would be a P-90 equipped model like the Gibson SG Classic (see photo). Is there an Ibanez equivalent? If so, what's the model number? Bolt or set-neck makes little difference. The model number is 2377. However; it's only listed in the 1973 catalogue and really hard to find. For a picture please take a look at our site: http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.de and have a look at the 1973 catalogue scan. My experiences with Ibanez SG necks are very positive. But maybe my hands are different from yours...... Good luck in finding one. A lot like the 2654 model shown here: http://216.250.245.172/2001picts/76-2654.jpg Except mine had the "real" bound headstock, with sails on it. I have not seen a catalog picture exactly like it, to date. Obviously, they made a bunch of different SGs. At the time, the guy who taught me guitar had a real Gibby SG (a '69, I think...maybe earlier). So I was able to A/B them whenever I liked. The neck was not that different, well mine was a lowly boltneck. (Artist necks feel "natural" to me, if that helps any) but the tuners were crappy and the pups were weak. Mind you, my buddy stripped the cherry finish off and stained it walnut with no lacquer top coat. Then he swap in Dimarzio super distortions. I think it already had Grovers when he got it. And he STILL had tuning problems with. Sounds like the exact same upgrades you'd make on the cheapo Ibanez! Hmmm, why did I lust after the "real thing" so? I'll see if I can locate an Ibanez SG copy locally to test drive. The "fat neck" issue carries more weight then the pickup type. A humbucker SG would be cool and I have no problem with a Bigsby. I like the Artist necks and find the "Viper" neck to be a perfect fit. The "Wizard" and "Wizard II" necks are a bit thin for me, but still far more comfy than a thicker one. I just can't play on a "baseball bat"! (Like your Challenger, John?) Cheers Steve
