Last week I just wondered about the fact that absolutely not ONE single reaction came on the auction of an ultra, ultra rare Ibanez twin-neck that was in US Ebay. Did you, especially those who collect Ibanez, notice that this was a 6-6 version? We sure know the 12-6 and the 4-6, in white or cherry, bolt-on or set necks etc. but Ibanez also made a very, very few 6-6 versions too. This particular one was a cherry finish and even with the "open book" headstock(s). It was put on Ebay for 700 dollars, auction time was about 7 days. My first guess was: this is such a rare guitar, it will probably reach a selling price of 1000 dollar easily, if not 1200. As nothing happened the first 6 days I guessed that those who were interested all kept quiet to not wake up the sleeping dogs (myself included, I will be honest about that). But to my big suprise no one EVER reacted, not even in the final minutes, when I thougt the bidding hell would break loose! So I placed a bit, because I thought: IF this one stays unnoticed this might be a good catch for me. So at that time I was the highest bidder and 700 was still the price. I just was flabbergasted that in the minutes that followed NOTHING happened and that the highest bid remained those 700. Countdown came.... 30 seconds, still no reaction.....15 seconds, still on 700......5 seconds, Christ! this can't be true......."Auction ended. Congratulations, you are the highest bidder"...... So you can call me now the very lucky new owner of one of the rarest Ibanez copies around! 700 bucks plus shipping! That's a bargain! I payed more for my 12-6 cherry bolt on! Just wondering: did you guys not see this auction, were you not familiar with the rareness of this axe, did you not KNOW this axe and were you suspicious about the fact it might be a fake, did you find the price too high, were you all out of cash, didn't you trust this deal? Please understand: I'm NOT blaming you all for anything, after all: thanks to all collectors that didn't react this deal, against all my expectations, turned out succesful for me. I am very happy to have this twin in my collection! But: where were you? I just was amazed about so little/ no competition here........ I am not into doublenecks though so I would not have bidded aganst you :-). Indeed strange that no one else jumped on it. There are a few guys here who seem to bid on all interesting Ibanez axes :-). I am very interested what you have to pay on customs and taxes when the guitar enters Holland. Please let me know! Yeah, the Ibanez fever has not met it's proper antibioticum yet......(although I'm not really looking either ;-) Slowly going towards 50 items now. You noticed that odd 12-string SG that was on German Ebay? Ultra-rare also!! Guess where this one is going to....... Yep! Although it looked pretty beaten-up, I think there's a good chance to restore it; I have two brand new chrome Super 70's that are waiting for the rare bird. The two broken tuners will be properly replaced also. Only problem will be to remove the piezo pickup that's under the bridge. Hopefully the "wound" will not be to big and easy to camouflage.... Never saw a 12-string SG, but I'm pretty shure it's no fake. After all: Ibanez had various models in the seventies that never were published in any catalogue or pricelist. And who-in-the-world would take the 12-string neck from a twin and put it in an ordinairy SG? What? That guy in America who put this 6-string SG neck in the place where once a 12-string was fitted?... UH, OH..... I don't hope this German and this American seller set up a "let's-trade-both-necks-so-we-have-two-rare-guitars" trick..... I am pleased to know who beat me to the 12 string SG though - wonder who got the 2618-12 I missed out on too!! I'm concentrating on the acoustics at the moment - there have been a number of good buys amongst these of late. So, doublenecks aren't my thing...well, if I got the chance, I'd snap up the Artwood Twin. What do you think of the white setneck SG Custom with 3 pups? The white set-neck SG with 3 pups is definitely a hell of a guitar and a fairly rare Ibanez copy too: this particular model is only shown in the '74 and '75 catalogue. I would gladly have this one in my collection. But...yes, I think the price is way too high. After all: the double 6/6 is much rarer and was even cheaper than the start-price that was asked for this SG. I wonder who pays such a big amount of money.....or even more! As far as the doubleneck is concerned: I think I will hardly play this axe: as you know I'm more of a collector when it comes to Ibanez. I do play guitar, but strange enough I don't really play Ibanezses. My main guitar is a very good Tokai Strat (never met a better F....r!) with one original neck pickup and two DiMarzio's. Besides this strat I love my Les Paul copy with G....n Paf's in it; it's a Tokai too, from 1982! Awsome guitar, wouldn't trade it for a new original one! This 3-humbucker model appears in the 1975 catalogue and was made until 1978. But nevertheless: it's not often seen and a real beauty. Bids are over 600 dollar now...."but now"-price is at 900 bucks. That's too much, in my opinion.
