Hi, I’m trying to determine the value of a guitar I have recently acquired. After search various sites I've more or less identified my guitar as an early 1970s Ibanez Les Pauls Recording Custom? model no. 2380? (see http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans/1973FB-2/cat3-1.jpg ). However, the headstock is slightly different in that it has the name "Ibanez" in cursive writing (like the version pictured here: http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans/1976KALA2/go/o-16.jpg although the central design is different) and also the word CUSTOM under the design central to the headstock. What is the value of this guitar? Cheers, Mat |

Hi Mat! I think you have a 2380 with an "open book" headstock shape and the "split-diamond" (also called "sails") inlay like the one on the 1973 scan. And it is perfectly correct that on your guitar is the script Ibanez-logo. In the catalogue of 1973 the guitars were pictured without Ibanez logo, so the pictures could be used for other catalogues with different brand names too. For instance: in the UK Ibanez guitars appeared under the name "Antoria". So making an "Antoria" catalogue would not cost so much extra, since you only had to take care for another cover. Your guitar has most likely no serial number. Please look at the chrome metal neckplate, at the body and the neck joint. If it only says "Made in Japan" your guitar is built between 1970 and the mid of 1975. If in the plate is also embossed a serial number you can learn this: the letter is the month (A=januari, B=februari etc.) and the next 2 digits are the year (75, 76, 77). If your guitar is complete and in original condition the value amongst collectors will be between 500 and 800 US dollars, depending on how demolished, well used, in good shape or mint it is.
