Does anybody have any experience with this model? I have seen one for sale recently but it was more than a tad expensive at $1,395 Aussie dollars. It was in good cosmetic condition, however the fingerboard was humped from about the 16th fret upwards. This created a buzzy action that can't be fixed with a truss rod adjustment. This area of the fret board needs levelling. Also I noted that the break angle of the strings over the bridge was very shallow, which I think contributed to a thin acoustic and electric sound. The floating humbucker was larger than that used on the GB10, perhaps not as large as a full size unit though. This was gold but badly corroded. the guitar looked nice, was well built, but it seems to have suffered from the ravages of time and possibly storage in a basement. Can anybody share their experiences and views on this model? Thanks, Mark. |

Hi Mark, I've never seen an Ibanez Howard Roberts Fusion, but replicas of the Norlin-era Gibson Howard Roberts (Artist and Custom?) come up for sale periodically in the States. The guitar above is an interesting example with a "flowerpot" headstock inlay. Gibson's versions had "vine of life" inlays (actually an Epiphone thing originally). The picture was taken from nealsguitars.com. The gold looks fairly worn, but overall it's a handsome guitar. Anything like the guitar you played, Mark? -Seth |

Seth, The guitar is very similar. The main difference being the colour. The one I saw was burgundy transluscent. Headstock shape is the same however it has the Epi style tree of life inlay. Knobs, pickup, fretboard inlays and tailpiece are all the same but the bridge didn't have the inlays. Also the top was not flamed maple. I guess I made a mistake calling this a Fusion model. I thought both the early and later Gibson Howard Roberts were both called Fusions. The later one looks like a downsized ES175. Anyway Seth thanks for the photo. Knowing there are nicer examples out there has helped me to decide to pass it up. Thanks, Mark |

Hi all, Does anyone know if some of these Howard Roberts copies were made without serial numbers stamped on them? I currently have what I believe is a Ibanez HR but there is no serial number. Any info??? Thanks Bill |

Bill: It's hard to say for sure. But I'd say there is a real good chance that the HR could have started in '75 when there were no serial numbers being applied to Ibanez guitars. |

Bill, I have seen a HR replica without a serial number recently. I know that conventional wisdom says that no serial number means early '75 or earlier. However this guitar had the wider neck and bigger frets that were introduced in '76. I passed on the guitar because it had a hump in the fretboard at the body join. Cheers, Mark |

Does anybody know what the three controls are on the H.R.? I know one is volume & one is tone, but is the 3rd one tone as well? 2 passive tone controls? Is this possible? I don't suppose anybody has a wiring schematic they would like to share, would they? :> I have this axe & am trying to bring it back to life. |

Hi Beeb! I quote my "Guitar electronics workbook" on this particular problem: There is another possible simple tone control,it´s called the treble pass tone control and used on Howard Robert´s style guitars made by Ibanez.Potentiometers are respectively a volume, treble bleed and treble by-pass. So there really are 2 passive tone controls, one normal and another bass- treble by-pass control. I have some schematics ´bout that one but unfortunately my main computer is a mess due to cracker assault last month. *Lost all my Ibanez Artist photos..boohoo* |
