Dan Armstrong Plexiglass Copy

I have bought a plexiglass guitar, branded "Shaftesbury" which I can find nothing about. I don't know about the neck, but the body, controls, pick-ups etc are all identical to photos I have seen of the Ibanez copy of the Ampeg Dan Armstrong model. Anyone out there got a plexi Ibanez? Can you provide a full description and any history on the guitar? it would be great to see some photos. You can find out how to load them onto the site under the Formatting folder. it's easy to do but confuses some people. Keep your image file under 50Kb, and when you preview your message you won't actually see the photos. You'll get a "Your image here" graphic. When you then post the message the images will upload. How does the plexiglass sound in comparison to timber??? Is it heavy?? Welcome to the board, Mark John H Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:03 am:    Hi guys and thanks for the response. I am in Fife in Scotland, and I bought the guitar recently in Dundee. Sadly I know very little about it. Yes it is heavy, and it sounds best playing rythym with 5 strings (guess who's a Keef fanatic?). It has a bit of wear about it, but is in good nick. It plays superbly, although the neck is very "soft", you can bend it out of tune very easily. All of this is forgiven because it such a rarity. I know that Shaftesbury was a trade name for a UK concern who sold low budget "bitsa" guitars in the 70's and 80's. All the more reason to suppose that they would not have afforded the tooling to make something as difficult as a plexi body, hence I presume the body came from elsewhere and they added a neck. I will post some pics, and you can see for yourselves what it looks like. I've been watching the market on the Dan Armstrong replica guitars, and they typically trade in the $500 to $700 range. When you consider that you can get a real vintage Dan Armstrong for under $2000 most any week on eBay, the conclusion I come to is that the asking price is too high. I'd value it at around $700 in VGC.
