Hi everybody! Since yesterday I can call myself the proud new owner of a stunning Ibanez ash telecaster. Amazingly well built and good sounding. However, the guitar puzzles me a little. Allthough I know for sure that the whole instrument is in original shape the neckplate has the serial number CK 770144. So my belief until now was that a "C" prefix put in front of the regular serial number only was used on instruments from the "Challenger" series. However: the headstock only has the Ibanez logo, so without the "Challenger Series" addition. Anyone who can tell me more about this? Greetz, Harry |

Hi Harry, Congrats on the nice purchase ! It's no doubt a Challenger Series neck plate. Both of my Teles & all of the Strats have worked out very well & are a joy to play. I'm sure yours will be too. Perhaps a neck was swapped on this one ? What hints are just above the nut ? Bullet truss rod, mahogany plug or truss rod cover? How about the back of the neck ? Skunkstripe ? Guy's, these are kick butt Strats with staggered pole pickups & great Teles . When you look at the same years for Fender Strats, the prices are sick compared to the A/B comparison with an Ibanez version of the same era. Everybody here should at least try one if you get a chance, they are really good guitars in my opinion and I have plenty of "Real Fender Strats" to compare them with. Of course "Real Strats" probably means pre-CBS Strats only to the guitar guys with huge investments in their 62 Stratocaster an 62 Tele Custom in very good condition or worse. Hi all! The neck on my Ash Tele has the adjustment screw at the body side, so at the headstock side there is this brown wooden "plug". And yes, the back of the neck has a skunk stripe. It's really an amazingly well-built telecaster and it sounds and plays great, so I can only agree with your opinion, Maniac! John, I still don't have a digi-cam and no scanner either. I think I'll choose for buying a scanner in the nearby future. I do take "normal" pictures to archive my entire collection, but that's done with an old camera. So I have lots of pictures to scan...
