Author Message Philwest (Philwest) Posted on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 11:10 am:    Halloo folks, Just found your great site after spending hours (of work) time trying to find out something about this guitar (above) I bought in 1982 in London.. I sort of gather that it has, in fact something to do with Ibanez? Wierd. A guitar tech who did some setting up and fixing said CSL had something to do with a guy called Chris Shepherd (I think - it was years ago). Any clues out there? It's a bolt on neck cream job. It's in fairly good nick. Worn gold bits etc. Definately 'used'. I dont use it live anymore, but have recorded with it. Leave the toggle on both necks..cool. The guy who had it before me did most of the damage - A band called 'Cathedral'. No comment.. I'll see if can manage to upload a pic but I really should do some work today!.. Ciao for now.. I owned one of these guys (the red version) having bought it second hand in a shop in Newcastle in 1983. It played really well except the 12s was a little tempremental. The CSL link, I was told, went somthing like this....it was called, something Sumerfield LTD, and were distributed from their depot in Gateshead into the UK. The company were linked to Ibanez somehow as they were of a similar quality. Yours is a nice looking example! Look after it/her! Yeah, the 12 neck was problematic until the bridge was binned for a decent one and about half of the pegs were changed (siezed or semi seizures!). works fine and stays in tune now. I've found it very sensitive to string gauges too and now always use 10's to keep things stable... will check out the artwood ones .. good to hear from you. Maurice Summerfield was the UK importer of Ibanez in the '70's, and he was the person responsible for bringing Joe Pass to Ibanez as a signature artist. Your case is original too. Here is a pic of my Ibanez version of the same guitar. I found mine in mint unplayed condition complete with hang tags and manual in a country town about 1 hours drive south of Perth, Western Australia. Mine got gigged heavily at one point and bears the scars of my careless attitude at the time! notice the headstock is a different shape on yours, was this normal too? Incidentally, you might notice in my photo how the electrics have been cunningly redesigned to stop the player knocking the neck into the wrong position (with duck tape!). Bloody stupid idea to put the switch there wasn't it?!! Earlier models featured a replica of the Gibson open book headstock, or sometimes the Gibson shape minus the centre dip. Yours should be pre-1976.
