I remember seeing one Cimar in late 70's. It was one of the most wonderful Japanese guitars of that era. It looked like a Stratocaster but, if my memory serves me well, it was equipped with either H/S/S or H/H. Beautiful wood grain, all natural and very, very light. I remember picking that guitar up and being amazed how light it is. Oh, just remembered what to compare it to: natural Schecter. As for the sound, damn I don't have a clue. I was too young to know what a good sound is. I just know that nobody wanted that guitar because it is too light and folks in 70's Europe believed that higher weight of an instrument gives better sound. They simply didn't give a damn about anything else. If the guitar doesn't match original weight of a Fender or Gibson, then forget about it. Of course, didn't see it here but in Europe. It seems to me like company made some instruments during 70's and they were kind of popular (in Europe) and then they simply disappeared. Knowing how hard it is to build a new name Ibanez probably decided to buy that somewhat recognizable name and here we go. Now, I am just presuming this and I don't have a clue if Ibanez was indeed the original owner of Cimar during 70's and simply decided to revive that name again. So there we go, Cimar seems to be for Ibanez what Epiphone and Squier are nowadays for Gibson and Fender. |

Cimar guitars are quite common here in Australia. They bear a marked resemblance to the Ibanez Silver Series and RoadstarII models. They seem to be exactly as Malden states a cheap version of bonafide Ibanez product. Does anyone know the story behind these guitars?? Regards, Mark |
