I recently aquired 2 Ibanez Set neck LP copies. One is a custom (full binding, super 80's, Scruggs tail pc, Cherry burst, block inlays , star tuners, volute) and one is a standard ( Burgundy, trap inlays, super 70's, plain hardware, no volute). Both guitars have 1977 serial numbers. Both of these guitars seem to have aftermarket Gibby knobs-the question is what knobs would be original on these guitars ? Did Ibanez use the sure grip knobs on the LP copies. Also, I cannot seem to find a pict of these anywhere. Does anyone have a '77 cat scan that they can share ? I will post pictures soon |

The standard model looks like a 2651CW. I'm pretty sure these were fitted with gold hat box knobs say like on a Gibson 59' Burst. The custom may be a late 2650CS and they were fitted with black witch hat knobs but I've also seen these guitars with gold metal cap knobs. For this information I require a set of gold Star Tuners from you please Thank you six |

Sorry Dave, I for one have never seen sure grip knobs on these types of replicas. Also that custon looks to have a Performer pick guard. I wonder if it was a muck about model they toyed with before they released the Performer series in 78' six |

Six LOL ....so you think these knobs are the real deal ? I also thought that Pickguard looked like a performer. Anyway these guitars are really Awesome-I'm still tweaking the action/intonation though but I am impressed. BTW I found another set of star tuners in the "Vault" you looking for tulip knobs or regular (both sets are in gold) so I think we may be able to work out that trade |

Didn't the SureGrip knobs first appear on 1978 models? I know the SureGrip II came out in '83. My '77 2618-12 had speed knobs. Cheers Steve |
