I did the old pawn shop visit on Saturday and to my surprise there were not one but four lawsuit series guitars..
There were 2 Les Paul Customs with The sails and open book headstock.... 1 at $250 AUD and one at $500 AUD
1 Gibson SG custom lawsuit with the 3 humbuckers and tremolo open book headstock $870 AUD
1 blonde deluxe 59er with the open book headstock as well.. $690AUD
I picked up the $250 custom (needs work but it is all there)
can someone lend me the money for the rest.... please........!!!
oh by the way these were all at different shops not just the one.... |

Considering the lineup of guitars you have and those you've told us about above, it seems that Australia is pretty fertile land for Ibanez lovers.
BTW, so we can get an idea of the prices you are quoting, what's the exchange rate for AUD to USD?

$250 AUD is $160 USD
$500 AUD is $320 USD
$870 AUD is $555 USD
$690 AUD is $440 USD
John remind me next time I go to the pawn shop not to buy a guitar but to buy a camera!!!!!
Ibanez guitars in Australia were more plentiful in the 70's because the exchange rate with japan was very low just to give you an example, an Australian car in the large family car category was about $3000 and a japanese equivelant was about $1500 so a Gibson Les paul was about $600 AUD BUT was About $1000 USD in The States.
$600 AUD in 1979 = $1200 USD
A Bob Weir in the states retailed for about $600 in Australia it retailed for $300 Average wage in OZ was $150 per week so in two weeks you could own a brand new Weir
Ibanez was in the beginners class of guitar pricing in Australia.....
A new JEM Floral in Japan now Retails for 230,000 yen about $$5000 AUD
A New JEM Floral in Australia retails for $3300 AUD
Tell me where the logic in that is ........
Give me a shopping list and I will more than likeley find it for you....
Any one want a Randy Scruggs 77 in mint condition and all original ...

The exchange rates sound great. But importing a guitar into the US can add a bundle! I know, I got a surprise C.O.D. on a guitar I bought from Canada. In my case, it came out to about 9 percent of the price of the guitar.
One thing I learned: if a product was originally manufactured in the US, it is exempt from import duties on it's way back in. But the shipper must declare it as such.
So, a Peavey amp (manufactured in Missouri, USA) is exempt. But an Ibanez guitar, made in Japan, is subject to duties.
The wacky thing is that nobody at UPS or FedEx will volunteer any info on Customs. You have to know to ask and then they will give an estimate. Otherwise, they just surprise the recipient with a C.O.D. charge. Not nice! |
