I`ve been lucky enough to find one these a couple of weeks ago . White in colour with a small white scratchguard , it has tremelo on it but not a bigsby although I have been told it is of the same era . Triple Super 70`s humbuckers with the word `Custom` on the scratchplate situated between the neck pickup and the neck . Open book headstock with Gibson logo pearl inlays and original tuners with the star on them . The neck is set not a bolt on and I cant seem to find that particular model (3 humbucker) without a detachable neck listed in any catalogues on the other sites . Is there any way of dating the pots or pickups on these?? It has the numbers 504042 on the pots and also letters and numbers engraved in the very bottom of the guitar(next to the bottom nut for the strap) which read MDU0663Q although the U is a bit funny and could also be a Y .Can anyone help ID this guitar or does anyone know of another similar one? Thanks Baz |

Hi Baz again! This guitar is pretty rare. It's the model number 2345 WH and you should be able to find that one on our site too. It's pictured in the 1975 and 1976 catalogue. In the 75 catalogue it still has the open book head, in the 76 catalogue the headstock is the newly shaped one. So your guitar must be from 1975. Please look under "catalogues" on our site: http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.com Greetz, Harry |

Hey Baz, how's it going? I agree with Harry, these are very rare, I've got one myself (my favourite guitar I might add) but have never seen another one. Mine doesn't have the engraving next to the strap button, this may have been done by a previous owner for insurance reasons or something. How has the gold hardware weathered on your's? Mine's pretty bad, it's oxidised pretty badly on the tailpiece above the lyre engraving, and bits of gold have peeled off on the metal part that flexes when using the tremolo. Captain Ibanez tells me that they started making this model in '73 and it was around March '75 that they switched from the open book head. How much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking? |

Hey guys thanks for your response! I found the guitar in the catalogue and it is the 2345 WH . It seems I have all the correct hardware although I seem to be missing the solid tailpiece with the lyre on it . Was this a removable cover ? I have two thin rods running down from the tremelo to the bottom of the guitar secured with a plate . The gold finish has come away a bit on the flexing part of the tremelo and the pickup covers are showing some wear although overall not in bad condition . I will try and get some photo`s on in the near future . Paid $600AUD to a guy who needed the money , my lucky day!! . Thanks again Baz |

Baz, at least the original Maestro Vibrola was equipped with a removable cover, with lyre engraving. It was secured with two smallish screws to those rods. So it seems the cover has disappeared... |

Hey Baz, I wish you had have posted that reply earlier; a lyre tremolo cover (potentially ibanez) closed on ebay just a few hours ago. It sold for US$56 (+$13 shipping to Oz) which was more than I was willing to spend since I don't need one. These don't come up very often from what I've seen, and although it was chrome it would have been better than the bare trapeze - the gold has long worn off mine to the nickel underneath. Either way, with or without the cover that's an awesome guitar for $600! I got mine for AUD$450, but that was 13 years ago, so you probably got a better deal than me! PS. I have noticed on mine that the stars on the back of the tuners are still perfect, yet on my 2387DX the stars are scratching/scratched off. How are they on your SG? I wonder if Gotoh switched to a higher quality ink at some point? |

Hey There , seems i`ll have to find a lyre tremelo cover and everything will be in order! . The stars on the back of the tuners are still perfect so maybe they did improve the quality at some stage? . Didnt know they were gotoh ! Hey Flatbag what part of Oz are you at?? |

Hey Baz, I'm in Sydney (west suburbs), where are you? The star tuners are Gotoh, if you look underneath the star you can see a little sort of swirl, get up real close and you'll note it's a "G" which gotoh still use on tuners today. |

Hey Flatbag , sorry it took me so long to reply but computer probs took me out for awhile there! . I`m up in Brisbane (northern suburbs). After playing it for awhile now I`ve found that it is not as big in output as my model 2341 (both are the custom super 70 triple humbuckers) The LP seems to have more grunt!. The SG seems to have a milder tone but still a great sound all its own! . Do you have other Ibanez guitars to play off against? What are you running yours through? I`m running a Marshall TSL602 and they sound great!! Baz |

I've got one other Ibanez to compare against, 2387DX (set neck '67 flying v - dual humbucker). The SG seems sharper and a touch louder, and sounds great with more saturated distortion, where the V sounds better on more classic overdrive. I've changed the pickups in the Flying V as the originals howl with microphonic feedback at any moderate volume, luckily I had a spare set of super 70's for it, but the SG still has a sharper output. I play through an old Peavey Classic (late 70s/early 80s?) 50W twin combo with Boss DS1 (distortion) and SD1 (overdrive) pedals. |
