Hi,

I recently bought a CSL Les Paul copy [a rebadged 2350 LP copy for the UK market] - it seems to be a 1973 or 74 model judging by the catalogue pics. It has no serial number.

I took the pickups out to take a look at them to see what they were and they seem to be Maxon pickups with 33828 in an ink stamp below the engraved Maxon/Maxcn logo on the pickup base.

Are these pickups any good? They don't seem (at first sight) to be single coils in a humbucker cover. The base of them is solid and they seem to be sealed.

How could I tell if they are single coils?

Also, is it worth replacing these? [And keeping the originals somewhere in case I ever re-sell...]

They sound OK - quite nice with a clean sound and on the neck pickup but over-driven they are a bit weak.

I got an old Ibanez/antoria 330 "1912" copy from around 70-72. imagine my surprise at how crap the pups were...The Maxons were actually single coils inside a humbucker plate!!! I believe they only appeared in 70-72 335 copies and quickly changed as they let the guiatr down so badly.
It is now an absolute monster!!!
