I'm looking at a '77 2368cs (bolt neck), in very, very near mint condition. I'll be buying it online without ever playing it, and after some reading, I'm a bit worried, so I thought I'd turn to those that know.
Is this a quality guitar? Can I get a good metal sound from this? I've read it has a arched top, making it "semi-hallow" under the pickups, and giving it a "microphoned" sound, which worries me. Claims to be solid body, but I've read that these were made of many different pieces, and it has a birch top. Birch? Is this a players guitar, or a collectors guitar? Is it a record-able guitar? Would a set of EMG's help get a "heavier' tone? (don't worry, I'll keep the original pick ups, and drill no new holes).
There is no belt rash, not scratches to speak of, no dings, and it's all original. The only slight blemish is the gold hardware has slightly tarnished. It is owned by a player/collector and has mostly hung on the wall. Is it worth $450 U.S. (no case included)?

Sorry, it is a 2350cs (not a 2368).

I have a '77 2350 in black. Great guitar, plays like a dream, sounds great. A good metal guitar? Not sure. I suppose if you consider LPs, SGs, and other "classic" designs good for metal, then this would fit the bill. Also features a maple neck (favored by Zakk Wylde, who's famous LP has a maple neck and ebony fingerboard).

Yeah, birch. Similar to maple, just not the same. It's an arched, laminated top. It's a lot cheaper to do this than carving a solid piece of maple.

EMGs? If that's what you like, that's what you like. I have the stock Super '70s in mine but often consider replacing them with 'bucker-sized P-90s. I change my mind about this every other week.

Is it worth $450? To a collector I'm sure it is, since it's completely original and in great shape.
