You know just the other day I was remembering when I used to play an '85 Strat for over 10 years. About 3 years ago now I sold it and used the money to buy a RG 570 w/hsc for an amazing $400. It was the best thing I have done when it comes to electric guitars. The Japanese had the understanding of what the Fender Strat should have been. Everyday I play RG, I always remember that 'ol strat I had, an how it couldn't do anything that the Ibanez does. (Like stay in tune!) I am purchasing a RG 550 from a pawnshop on lay-a-way, (It is an early '85 that is a neon yellow, one of the guitars the JEM series where created from) and when it comes home with me, I know I'll have a piece of Ibanez history. |

Well I'm proud to say I'm an Ibanez player too. I started out on shitty pawn shop guitars and started doing the Frankenstien guitars like EVH. Then I had to have Strats. The more the better! They are so in consistent (at least the 60 & early 70's were) that you had to have lots of them to suit your needs. Then Yngwie came along so we started scalloping the necks & adding the old style Floyd Rose. It got to be so exspensive to get a Strat & then customize it to play like you wanted to, that I gave up on the Strats and went back to the Frankenstien stuff. Then I got a BC Rich warlock and found myself addicted to the 24 fret neck. But that body shape had to go! I fell into a deal that landed me in a Balck RG 550 with a maple neck. That was it, There was no need to search for another guitar.... ever! This thing was perfect. I soon found myself becoming a "Jem Junkie" and have owned most every model they offered since 87. I got burned out on guitars a few years back so I decided to sell off my 30 odd guitars and took up Custom Harley building. I did keep 3 guitars, all Ibanez. I have a Racer X custom Iceman/Dystrorer hybrid (autogtaphed by PG himself!) My #1 which is an 88 Rootbeer Jem that I swapped out the neck for the Maple RG wizard neck from the balck RG that got me hooked in the first place. The balck RG now sports the Jem RB neck. I run these into my VHT 100clx pittbull and they sound amazing. |

I love my RG's also when compared to strats. The only place a strat is better is the non-floyd neck can take a fall much better, just look at all the Wizard necks on ebay that are cracked at the lock nut where the bolts come thru! |
