Hi Edhyena

This particular Les Paul copy is the Ibanez model number 2350 WH (WH standing for: white). This one has the correct "open book" headstock shape (also refered to as "moustache shape"), which means that it's built before Ibanez started to use a different headshape in order to avoid lawsuit problems with Gibson. The shape of the headstock took place in early 1976.
The Les Paul you are refering to has a backplate (neck/body joint) which only reads "made in Japan", which means that the guitar was built before Ibanez started using serial numbers in (most probably) August 1975.
So this particular one was built around 1973/1974.
The copy was not really faithfull to its original, because of the bolt-on neck and the construction of the body: At that time the optical impression was more important rather than the correct way of constructing. Of course another important reason was: it had to be done in a cheap way.
The top is not massive and carved, but in fact it's a thin plate of some plywood-like material which is bent/pressed in the right shape (arched) and glued to the "real" body. That means that between the wood of the body and the plywood top there are "sound chambers", which cause the guitar to sound different from the original. In most cases this means that an Ibanez Les Paul with bolt on neck and plywood arched top always will disappoint you if you're looking for the "real Les Paul sound" (whatever that is, since every sound is not only depending on the guitar but on the amplifier and used effects as well). That does not mean it sounds crap, but my experience is that the sound of these guitars is somewhat thinner and sharper with more "bite", more like an SG (if you HAVE to draw a comparison).
Most people who own an Ibanez Les Paul copy are very satisfied with the "feel" and playability of the neck.
Kind greetz,
Harry

Wow Harry. Great response.. Im pretty up on the lawsuit stuff. i also own a 6/12 doubleneck in white necktrough with no s/n I LOVE it. As far as the sound.. not to worried about it. i play metal music, I mostly wanted it beacause i have always thought the white Pauls like the one i bought are BEAUTIFUL. Ive done alot of reading concerning the pre/post 75 stuff about serials and such, i just wanted to make sure what i have been reading was in the right direction. I thank you ALOT for the response, and look forward to future posts on this site.

I think the ONLY thing that lets down the Ibanez Les Pauls is the neck. I'm not saying they're bad, just not as well shaped as a Gibson. But it's a very subjective thing - a matter of individual taste.
Having said that, I think the Ibanez LP's sound great! I think the "sound chamber" is an asset which really comes into it's own when you play with everything turned up to eleven.

Lespaul, are those 4 white ladies all yours? Beautiful!

Hey Les Paul!

Pity about those weird-coloured little triangles between the pickups....

Hey Harry & Les Paul,

What do you make of this one? Says "all original", but check out the middle pick-up, knobs and scratch plate. By the inlay, its an oldie.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33043&item=7313280665&rd= 1&ssPageName=WDVW

The tuners don't look right along with bridge and tail piece.

Any ideas?

The neck PUP looks newer than the other two....The inlay looks to be early, but the bottom of the neck is squared off..'74 ?

Harry,

Do not fear, those little triangles are quite easy removable without leaving damage or even traces behind. They are just there for my convenience when playing them.

Have you guys noticed that the tulip headstock ones are much more white, compared to the almost yellow other two?

Linus: yes, they all live here.

About the three pick up one on ebay:
the middle pup is definetly an add-on, the inlays on the neck stop at the seventeenth fret and the body binding is only two-ply. I have seen that before but only on guitars which I doubt to be Ibanez. The bridge saddles are the white plastic ones I think, which matches with the old style inlay. I agree with Dave on the odd combination neck inlay/ squared off corners of the fretboard. Look some sort of intermediate.
The pickguard is a customized one of the correct vintage. I believe it is an Ibanez but it is not supposed to be on this guitar. I think it came off of a 2351m or 2351bs of the same vintage, together with the knobs.

Lespaul:

Those are mighty pretty in white! Do you think there's any sound differnce between the lawsuits and post lawsuits?

Hi Ed and John. Relax!

They are just a couple of run of the mill 2350's. The one on the left has super70s on it. Not EMG's. Those are just plastic covers attached with double sided tape to make em look like EMG's. Guess it works...... When I bought this it was made a Zakk Wyldde lookalike. So fake EMG's, back of the neck stripped and oiled and bullseye graphics on it. I removed the bullseye graphics and resprayed the neck. I like the looks of the plastic covers so they stayed on.

There is no noticeble sound difference between those babies. Mind you they are K75, L75, L76 and L77, so quit close in vintage. The headstockshape and trusrud cover print are the only differences.
The one on the far right is about 1500 grams heavier than any of my other 2350s and has a carved top, not an arched one. I think this is irregular. Can't tell that by the sound though.

Paul

By the way Ed, I dig your 18 stringed baby!

Thanks Les..

I had it totally redone at a local shop here. when i got it the paint was cracked BAD all over. looked like a spiderweb all over the guitar. They re did both neck bindings, painted it, and installed the Selects. I paid 400 for it at a garage sale over 10 years ago. Whats the model number for that one? I cant remember. but yeah.. i love it. Oh.. did they also make neck trough versions of it? cuz mine NOT set in or bolt

Did you see it in bare wood? It looks a little strange to me maybe a little filler added in but I could be wrong. We have seen strange things with Ibanez guitars.

Yes, it was stripped to bare wood so it could be sealed to help prevent the paint from cracking again in the future. there was no filler, no joints nothing.. thats why i brought it up.. its odd everything i have read refers to bolt or set.

If it were a neck through you'd see it clearly. I would say its a tightly jointed set in neck.
