Hey there, I'm thinking of selling my jade green Maxxas MX3, basically I need the money! It doesnt have the original pickups in, the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Dimarzio Multibucker (which REALLY packs a punch I must say) fitted professionally, but I'm just wondering what it's worth. It means the world to me so I would want a fair ammount for it, and I'm wondering if it's actually worth more to me than I would get, due to it's relatively unheard of nature. Valuations anyone? |

I would suggest you search for your guitar on eBay. There will probably be one or two for sale. Then watch them and see the final bid price paid. All the music stores (and pawn shops for that matter) watch eBay closely these days so they are well aware of market prices. At least this will give you a benchmark for determining the price. |

You piqued my interest, Jimmy, so I did some research. You've got quite a guitar there, and contrary to my first post, you may not be able to find one for sale on eBay. (I had assumed incorrectly that it was a common model.) History of Maxxas Guitars: http://www.ibanezregister.com/history/history-maxx as.htm Some facts: * Ibanez sold it under the "Maxxas - A Division of Ibanez" name so not to risk the Ibanez name if the guitar failed to sell. * The MX-3 was born in 1988, and by 1990, Maxxas guitars disappeared from the US and UK lineups. * The guitar was made in the Fujigen Gakki plant, and has a serial number beginning with F, then the last digit of the year, so F7 = 1987. * The history suggests only a few hundred were ever made. * It ends with, "As time goes on, the Maxxas guitars are becoming increasingly rare. If you own one, consider yourself lucky." Here's a page that illustrates the hollowbody construction of the MX-3: http://www.geocities.com/xcvxcv65/ibanez/bluemaxxa s.htm Here's a Maxxas brochure (1987, Japan): http://www.ibanez87.it/english/catalogs/e-cat-87ma xxas.aspx An old ICW Thread on Maxxas: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/14 /120.html Another old ICW Thread on a Maxxas Bass: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/12 /18326.html?1162566016 |

Thanks for the info! I realise that the guitar is probably only of interest to a collector, which is why I am dubious as to whether I will make what I PERSONALLY think it's worth. Especially as the pickups aren't original, and I know thats something that a collector will look down on. The problem is I dont have any idea whatsoever where to even set a realistic reserve! |

In the second to the last link I give above, look for a post in that thread from Orval. It looks like he has (or had) three Maxxas guitars. You might want to email him directly to get his opinion on price. |

Well it's on ebay now for a price that reflects how much it means to me. If it doesnt sell, it doesnt sell, I dont want to part with it for less than that ammount! Thanks for all your help. |

I can't find it. Can you provide us a link to it? Basically, all you need is the item number. Then you input the item number into the "Add Ebay!" box and click the Add Ebay! button. That will put a special code into the body of your post. Then you post it and the link will take us to your auction. Thanks! |

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, although it says postage only to the UK, I am happy to look into postage to the US (and anywhere else for that matter), but it could be expensive! |

My Maxxas is now currently listed as of last night in the "classified" section of ICW. It can be had for much less than $2,000 or even the $1600.00 that the green one without the original pups and non-original case sold for. Mine has all original everything.(Check out the photos) 2 small Ding's (you can kind of see the bigger one on the photo of the pups. Just to the right of the neck pup about 1 inch, the other is a very small chip in the top of the headstock)It is also missing the small rubber tip for the three way selector, but I have the original case, tremalo and an extra spring for the tremalo bridge. Check it out and get in touch with me if interested. I will let it hang around here for a short while before I post it to Ebay. Make me an offer??? |
