found ICW yesterday. my question was basically answered in previous posts (I read tons of them). I have an AR200 Made in Korea with s/n C8070512, cherry red, almond binding, dot rosewood fretboard. Bought used 2 years ago. Body is perfect. No dings, no scratches. Plays well and intonation is great. I assume by the s/n this one is a 1980 model. Read lots of your users comments on what is/not vintage. I guess it depends on buying vs. selling. Great site guys. Comments? |

Oldschool: Welcome to ICW! Scanlan is correct. there were no Korean made Ibanez guitars in 1980. That didn't start until '87. Serial numbers can be tricky...lots of different schemes have been used by the different factories that have supplied Hoshino with guitars. |

scanlan and johns: Thanks for your info. UR correct on the confusing s/n schemes. I am just happy that the guitar itself seems to be of decent quality. I paid $200 w/o case. Screwed or not? |

Oldschool: I'd say you did pretty good. In 1998 the AR200 had a list price of $800.00, probably went for around $500.00 on the street. Check out this catalog page for the specs on your AR200: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1998/98020. jpg |

johns: The website catalog showed my exact guitar. I now know it is an AR200TR. Assuming TR=Transparent Red. Thx, I think I'll hang on to this one for a few years. I found a used but very nice Ibanez heavy duty gig bag w/detachable backpack, $20. I'm feeling better all the time. Thanks for all the good info. |
