Hi, came on this auction yesterday and thought: this is an AS50. Well, it's not, the exact position of switch and knobs reveals the smaller body. From the catalogues I see the AM50 is a pure maple guitar whereas the AS50 sports the mahogany neck. I'd guess the AM50 should sound brighter then. Anybody in a position owning both and being able to compare in more detail? O, and I forgot: My AS50 is two months apart from the auction's AM50. Mine has Gibraltar and Quick Change whereas the AM50 already has Gibraltar II and Quick Change II. :-J Ebay Item #300143192806 |

I own a minty 1983 AM-50 and it is indeed quite bright. And having the original AM50C case, I know that THIS case is NOT ORIGINAL. The materials mentioned in the catalogue for the 1979 AS-50 were: Body: Maple Neck: BIRCH http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1979-1/02.jpg I don't know whether the catalogue info was incorrect or the specs were changed or you are mistaking. A change of specs is not very likely. Normally this is a reason to change the model number. Ginger |

Ginger: The '82 Full and Semi Acoustic catalog says that the AS50 had a Maple body and Mahogany neck. Looks like a change from the earlier years. |

The '82 Full and Semi-Acoustic catalogue? Hey, that Russian site seems to have missed that one! I don't see it and Meinl is off-line. Can't check it right now... I hope that there are no serious troubles with the server. (I hope the reason is, that they found other catalogues and that they are putting it on the site right now) [THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL/WISHFUL THINKING] Ginger |
